SR20 lightweight flywheels
Hello gentlemen,
Currently being in the market for a new flywheel, I am looking at a few options. However, one of the things I noticed is that many of the flyweels do not come with the dowel pins for aligning the pressure plate. What is up with that? ![]() ![]() Is it on purpose? Or do they come included, but have to pressed in? I am curious. I would prefer my flywheel to come with the dowel pins in it, to be honest. For example, the ACT flywheel has them. ![]() Are there any brands I should shy away from? I specifically want a steel one-piece unit, as I do not trust aluminum and multi-piece flywheels. Cheers. |

I've been told by a few people that you don't really need them
however, I've always had them on all my flywheels if you must have them you can a) pull and press the ones on your stock flywheel, or b) measure the OD of the dowel and order some from McMaster I went with the later on my last flywheel ps. ~15lbs for a car you daily, ~10 or 11lbs for a track car from experience |

I think the material, and construction should be more of a concern than "missing dowel pins", but that's me! Chrome-moly sp?

My motor came with a stock clutch in decent shape. I considered buying one of those cheapo flywheels to use with it for testing and setting up the car when I put it together, so I do not ruin a nice new clutch and flywheel in case something goes wrong. Then again, it is tempting to go all out and put nice parts on it now. |

I bought a Spec billet steel flywheel when I did my swap. Great DD FW, I think it was right around 15lbs. Shaved a good amount of weight from it, but had enough to keep some inertia and help with off boost driving.

And It doing what it's supposed to do, (Holding a 350ftlb setup) along with an Act 6puck sprung disc and RPS Max Street Pressure plate. I'm not recommending you go out and buy it, but it does work!
