s14sr20det with HKS Hi Power 60mm piping, for now...
What’s up everyone. I just test drove my s14 with the s14sr in it. A few things to note: It still has my HKS Hi Power ka exhaust with 60mm piping. It has the stock side-mount i/c, an HKS DD filter and a Tomei 255lph fuel pump. Klay at Motorex also set the timing back to “break in” the engine. With that in mind, it felt like a strong engine and it was very smooth all the way to 7000rpm. It also felt “restricted” and a bit sluggish, though. I will be getting a gp sports spec R stainless exhaust with 80mm piping this week. Do you think adjusting the timing and replacing the exhaust will make a big difference? Thanks!

80mm exhaust on our cars are dyno-proven, 20+ at the wheels. Ask Nadine.
![]() It's a turbocharged car, so yes, bigger exhaust pipes will make a drastic improvement. I would also recommend babying the engine for about 500-1000 miles... you may want to change the oil after the first 100, you'll see that its black as all hell (all the builup and crap from the motor sitting). Run some Mobil-1 and also use some Marvel's Mystery Oil on it. ![]() Stuff works miracles! Have fun with your new motor and let us know what happens when you get the new pipes! |

the first oil you sould use in an engine thats been siting is NOT Mobile 1. Use conventional oil. It is a bit thicker and has a tendancy to "coat" the internals. Mobile1 is just TOO slippery to break the engine in. After about 500 miles or so, I'd go with Mobile1. Change the oil after 100 miles. Then change again at 500 miles. That's another reason to go with cheap-o conventional oil: its less expensive since you will be just throwing it out after very few miles.

Well, I ended up getting an apex n1 single brand new in the box for $300!! Much props to richardxfeng for hooking this up! Man WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! The car pulls insanely now! Today I was following a lan evo making a right turn and he tried to pull away from me. We ran for about 1/8th of a mile and my car stayed with him (!) then I turned into the dealership so it ended there. He started pulling away just so slightly but he must have been trippin on a 240 keeping up with him. Very happy with my sr swap. Much props to Klay and Motorex
