Don't know if it's serious or not

Well as i searched around it seems like alot of people been having there trannys go out on them is the tranny on our cars just weak or something?

Well here's the problem (i searched but still couldn't find the right answer)
Somes times when i'm at a complete stop and put my car back in 1st gear it makes a quick grind then i have to quickly pull back to neutral and put it back then it's fine. This only happen sometimes also today i was powershifting to third on the highway and heard a quick little grind is that bad? what can i do is it the Tranny going bad? Could it be my fluid? My car has about 145k on it and i just got it, so i haven't check the level of the tranny fluid yet. Also what would happen to the open Differential if it had no fluid in it? <----just wondering on this one..but im really worried about the tranny thing it happens alot in first gear only. any suggestion at all

mine is fifth. my integra did it in 3rd and it was the synchro. i'm thinking it might be the same thing. I'm pulling my tranny off and might have it looked at while it is off.

my 240 started doing that same thing at about 150,000 mi on 1st and 3rd... then all just went out at about 155,000. i just changed my tranny and my clutch... theres really no getting around it. once it starts f*cking up... start saving cash.

Go replace your transmission oil before you post. I would recomend Redline heavyduty shockproof or GM synchromesh.

I wouldn't exactly run out out and start looking for a new transmission at the first sign of possible wear (grinding ever so often and whatnot). Hell, my tranny has always had a little extra effort required to go in third and has been like that four close to 5 years now. You'd be amazed at what some good fluid will do for it.....I've been running Redline for close to 8 months now and it's like the tranny is new almost. I'd suggest taking that route first before dropping x amount of dollars on another tranny.

hmm, my cars clutch went out yesterday in a fucking ghetto neighborhood, so i left it in someones yard. anyway, my car had a short shifter in it when i bought it, and there is something rattling in it and also LOTS of grinding, i thought my tranny was fucked...but then my gears started working better when it was cold for some strange reason. when i was in a gear if i went over 3k rpms then it would start slipping. but i noticed once my car warmed up thats when it would begin slipping.so i think its my clutch. but the thing is, i just put a new clutch in it...hmmm

GM Syncromesh is very good stuff. I ran that in my old '97 Prelude and it made the shifts very smooth. Haven't gotten around to putting any in my 240 but I most likely will the next time I change my tranny fluid.

Many of the folks on Preludeonline have switched over to GM Syncromesh now too...

One example:
