![]() I know many of you are in the military and stationed in Japan so here are some question for you folks. I hope you guys can lead me to the right direction.
I am looking to import some euro cars into Japan. I've done some research and I know I need to do the inspection and emission but I couldn't find more info. Is there any modification require or better yet, is there any company in japan that will help with the import/registration process? What is the tax/duty like? I couldn't find much info on Japan custom website. Any help, lead would be appreciated. |

You will require a JCI inspection, emissions inspection, exhaust/decibel level. You also need to have all the lights the Japanese cars have, fender side markers front running lights/ blinkers, folding mirrors.
Also certain year cars depending on country cannot enter the country period due to the emission laws. Your best bet would try to find the Japanese LTO Website. |

A rust free 240Z?? I don't see that happening bro, damn near 80% of them have rusted out fender linings, battery trays, rear inner fenders, etc.

Yea, Im on ZY. Rules may be different since I am not in the armed forces nor am I on okinawa but I will shoot him a pm.
edit: I know datsuns very well and I shouldnt have said rust free because any 40 year old car will have rust unless it has been in a time capsule all its life. But So Cal cars have far less severe rust and rot than east coast cars and are far better priced too. |

He's not military, he got picked up as a contractor. Not sure if he paid for his move or it was picked up. But I vaguely remember him saying they had to inspect it in Tokyo before it got shipped down to Oki. Like I said, shoot him a PM, he should be able to tell you the process he went thru.
