Hardbody

I want to ditch the TBI in my new toy(97 nissan 4X4) Not sure of the best way to do it. Will smog be an issue? Can I just take the intake man.+ the fuel rail and injectors? Do I need the whole head? Would it be a better Idea just to swap a DE. Thank You.
Dave

Yes it's the SOHC. It's funny, got the same valve cover as the pignose, but it's got that stupid TBI with that ugly round airbox. I kind of wanted to stick with the SOHC because 1. I here it's better for N/A upgrades (turbo is a bad thing for 4X4's IMO) 2. It's only got 70,000mi.

90+ d21 (hardbodies) in the us came with multi point fuel injection. The throttle body looks like a tbi, but there are 1 injector per cylinder (94+ trucks have side feed type injectors, older ones and the ka24e in the other vehicles used top feed). The z24i which came in the earlier d21's have tbi with 2 injectors.

as far as a good offroad engine, i would stick with the ka24e, and possibly try out a few different cams. The truck ka24e cam develops the most power at the lowest rpm.
