engine light..probably nothing..juss a faulty sensor...happens to lotta 240's..it goes on some times then off.. but if you say you smell gas in the car..it could be that you have a loose pipe of some sort on the exhust..like the down pip or something..could also be y the engine light is on..not sure..but it could be.

find your ecu, its in the passenger side foot well, right near the door, put it into diagnostic mode by turning the knob in the back forward then back, then read what code the CEL blinks, then when you get the # come back here and post it and ill tell you what your problem is

there's an easier way though, if you have an autozone near your house, go to it. They give free CEL diagnosis. Dunno if they are around where you live though.

sorry, i know this thread is kind of old, but i thoguht this would be useful for others.

I tried to run the test tonight, but have no idea where the the knob is (the one needed to run the diagnostic test).

is it here?

And if it is, how in the world am I suppose to get to it? Do i have to unbolt the two bolts holding the ECM to the chassis?

Wasted the entire 3 hours tonight trying to figure out what to do

TIA

Yeah, Nissan was real nice about putting it on the other side... you'll need to get those bolts off to check it out.

Just a tip: Even though I'm a smaller guy, it's still kind of a cramped working space down there in the footwell. It helps me to pull the passenger seat out to get in a more comfortable position while working.

YumP I have to take that Bitch out and duN u know it I had a code "55 - Normal engine management system operation is indicated - this means all is OK." Then that stupid blinker went away for a month then came back. It disappears once and awhile then came back, this car is mocking me haha.
