clutch help.
I tried searching this and didnt find anything, so if I missed something or overlooked it im sorry.
I got a 93 240 hatch. I was driving last night and the clutch pedal started getting really hard to push untill it wouldnt push at all. I stopped the car and let it sit for a few minutes Started Iit back up and the pedal pushed fine. When I push it now though the clutch wont dissengage. So it cant be put it gear. Can anybody help me with this. I would think its the master or slave cylinder. Im not sure on this one though. Any help would be appreciated the quicker I can get back on the road the better. Thanks |

Jack the car up and look at everything between the pedal & tranny- To include sliding the boot on the fork back and seeing whatever you can see... A lot of times; a simple self-inspection will reveal the issue long before a bunch of yahoos on the internet.

have someone push the pedal and check if the Slave is pushing out as it should be. If all that seems to be functioning fine I would put it into gear and hold the clutch pedal and try to crank the car quick and see if the car pushes forward. If it does I would say pull the trans and check out the PP, clutch and TO bearing.

Sounds like the clutch fork popped off it's pivot point. Or snapped the clutch fork pivot ball. Schooch under the car and check if the fork is dangling. I also suspect the clutch pressure plate or clutch spring(s) has fallen apart and lodged itself in the clutch assembly. Do you hear noise when attempting to disengage the clutch?

Thanks fpr the help. So ive replaced the master and slave and the clutch still wont dosengage I pushed on the fork and I couldnt move it reattached the new slave and it still wont move. So im thinking its the pivot or the throw out bearing.

Time to drop the trans. Its so easy to do this that anytime I have a trans issue I literally pull my engine out (30 mins) and then fix everything and reassemble (45 mins)

Yeah, definitely don't be pressing the pedal anymore until you can pull that thing off and look. IF nothings damaged you shouldn't be too far off driftwire's numbers. but of course if you're not absolutely sure about something, I would ask on here before you do anything.

Yes def ask if you need help with anything once its all apart. If you drop the trans you might as well replace the clutch and Pressure plate, pilot and Throw out. Its not expensive at all and better if its all already apart. (Not sure if you stated you already had new stuff installed. Def replace the pivot ball though. Some go bad and some dont. Its 1 simple thing and cheap.
