Axxis Ultimates and new rotors dont fit?
I replaced the front pads and rotors without problems ( endless na-y pads). But when i got to the rear, it seems as if the new pads (axxis ultimates) and the rotors are simply too thick. I can't get the caliper over the pads. I tried to get the axxis pads on my stock rotors, but they I still coudlnt get them in. The car is a 93 13 hicas, has anyone else run into a problem like this?

Are you using a brake tool or needle nose pliers to turn the pistons in on the rear calipers?
Or have you already turned in the pistons as far as they will go? If so, the rotors are wrong.

double check that the piston is in all the way. Also, make sure those little clips arent bound up in anything, or at a crooked angle. if everything is in right, it SHOULD go on.

i nearly stripped and bent part of my brake tool forcing the calipers in, yet they still arent all the way completely in. I also dont think its the rotors cuz theyre skinnier if not equal to my old stock ones. How else can i push the piston in? how do u turn the piston ( just used a brake tool that you crank against it and it pushes it back)?

if you go to autozone or a similar arts place they will have a universal tool that looks like a cube with little tab things on it.
the cube goes onto a ratchet and you turn the piston clockwise to push em in. go to the store and ask for a "cube looking universal brake tool" it'll all make sence after you see the tool

open the bleed valve on your calipers and twist it back in with your hand. This all I ever do, (lots of different cars too). If thats not working I would think that something is wrong. Good luck.

I had the same problem, you get to a point where if you keep turning the caliper tool the piston does not go in anymore. This is what I did: 1. take off reseirvor cap, but watch the fluid level so it doesn't flow out 2. get a second person (who has strong fingers) to push at the same time as you are turning the tool. OR 3. (the way I did it): in the caliper there is a slit/opening on the side, there is just enough space to slide a screw driver in there as a lever to help push the piston in AS you are turning the caliper tool. Becareful to PUSH and TURN at the same time, you don't want to risk damaging the caliper. Also becareful not to damage the surface of the piston w/ the screwdriver, just watch out. Funny cuz my friend w/ a S13 pushed in his rear caliper pistons w/ ease and mine always take alot of muscle power, but the screw driver trick works well. hope this helps. edit: if you haven't cleaned off your rotors (if they're new) with brake cleaner do it ASAP before they go on the car! |

yeah i did have the mc's cap off, ill go out there in a day or 2 to try the cube expander tool , or perhaps some of the other tricks. I will keep you posted.
Is it also a possibility carbo tech sent me the wrong axxis pads? maybe for a non-abs car with smaller rotors would need a thicker pad? Thanks all for your help, Jonathan |
