shimmed differential questions
so today i shimmed my differential.. i ordered teh .80mm thrust washer from nissan.. installed it as seen online.. when i drive fast or want to slide around its perfect.. but when i park.. drive slow.. turn not even going too or anything like normal driving, i feel clunking like one wheel is skipping. i only added one washer to one side.. was i supposed to add one washer to each side? to my understanding it shound clunk or skip when i turn without accelerating but yea thats not happpening.. its always doing it. Scared my differential will brake. anyone have experience with this please let me know.. thanks

what kind of dif is it
2 ways clunk around turns if you're in gear, and are quiet around turns in neutral (so the opposite of what you said). Especially around low speed tight corners. Your outside tire could skip if your gear oil is old or a bad weight. Welded's will make the outside tire skip like a motherfucker all the time. |

im pretty sure the shim is only on one side. which is that side with the ring/pinion big gear thingy. i still gotta shim mines too. maybe not anytime soon though.

You should only have to shim one side if you ordered the right size shim. The purpose of shimming the differential is to adjust the side bearing preload as measured by torque it takes to turn the gears. In english; you're adjusting how hard the two gears are pressed together and how hard they are to turn. You want to eliminate free play between the gears, but you don't want them completely crushed together. If you shimmed both sides with the same sized washer, you'd be doing nothing.
