I may be wrong on this, but there was a red top and black top s13 sr20det that were exactly the same, just the newer s13's came with the black one right? I figure you were talkin about s13's not all black top (s14-15)?

i think u need to clarify on the "there are sr20det black tops too." yes there r, but why point that out? all the black top, red top, whatever engines that r from the silvias/180's r all sr's, except when a ca is in its place.

It's the Variable Valve Timing as well as 10 more horses, I believe. S13s came with red-tops unless they were polished and painted otherwise.

http://www.boostdynamics.com/engines.html naw, looks like the s13's had blacktop too. And I don't think all s14's had vvt...may be wrong on that tho.

all the s14 sr20det's have vvt n so do the s15 sr20det's IIRC. i'm not sure w/ the black top sr's for s13's cuz i usually just think of them from being in 95-up models. black top n red top sr's should have like the same power output though (black top might just be newer...maybe), don't know much else on it off the top of my head.

not all S14's had VVt until 95.5 early S14's had the black top S13 sr. All 180's had S13 black top or read top sr engines.

91-93 S13 Silvia and RPS13 180SX - S13 red top 205hp
94-01? RPS13 180SX - S13 black top 205hp
94-98 S14 Silvia - S14 black top VVT 220hp
99-01 S15 Silvia - S15 black top VVT 250 hp

there is no "sr20vet", with or without VVT they're called sr20det's...correct me if I'm wrong, but an sr20vet would have lift as well as variable timing...

94 180sx have black valve cover. the only difference is the black valve cover has a T28 instead of a T25 and a 215 HP rating instead of 205 HP. black cover with vvtc has 220hp, s15 has 250hp

Actually, there is an sr20vet, but it is an oddball that is only FWD configuration. Maybe in the Pulsar? Anyway, it does exist and you are right about the variable lift on it. Otherwise, I think we have reached fact

That's a Tomei racing motor that they punched out, IIRC, and not a factory item. It is $10K w/ core charge and comes with out of the box performance. The guy (whose name I am forgetting) with the grey s14 on the cover of Stupid Street over the summer had one. dammit what's his name?!? Besides, I honestly think the vet is more rare!

Import Tuner wrote something about the sr21DET in Non Fujita's car... i figured it was a typo... so there is an engine like that?
cuz Non got his engine from Tomei ... who supplies this SR21DET? (if it exists... i still have my doubts)

what would be the difference except for a 100cc difference in displacement?? bigger turbo?
-----
10gs? sounds like it's almost the price of a brand new Silvia engine

----
anyone know what type of SR20 Nismo sells? i went to their website and was looking and in their 'engine' selection, they have SR20s for sale... i doubt it's anything stock...

---

i'd like sum more info on this SR21DET if it exists. cuz i haven't come across it on the net except for that one article on Import Tuner.

If you can read kanji, check here:
http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/

If not, do a search in altavista for tomei sr21det. You will get the tomei-p site. Open the link by hitting "translate" and altavista will translate what it can to english. When you get the main site, click on the piston and rod icon on left. After it loads, click on any of the TSR### links (the ### = ps output). It gives a description. BTW: you'll notice the displacement is only 2021 - but to Tomei, that makes it a 2.1L. Enjoy dreaming...

Added for the lazy... not that reading this Engrish is easy: SR350:

The complete engine is not to pursue just the highest output, what compared to it handles and is developed on the basis of easiness.
It adjusted standard to the intended purpose which many users need, low the setup which utilizes the turbine ahead of time from revolution and, especially it seriously considered the torque of the medium speed whose use frequency is highest rotary limits low, it set in the specification which it improves.
It meaning that feeling, power, and the response which you seek from the SR20DET engine are this tuning engine, it does.
