need serious help

I have recently started having problems with my 91 240sx. The car runs and idles fine as long as i have jumper cables hooked to anthour running car. However as soon as the jumper cable are dropped the car stutters and dies.

I have a new battery, checked all my ground leads and alternator cables fussible links.

I have noticed though one of my relays vibrates and makes a extremlly lound clicking sound its the EGI relay i have no idea what this is for and if its normal

Is your battery the correct size? Do you have enough cold cranking amps (CCA)? Have you had your alternator checked? Are you drawing a lot of power for a monster stereo system?

I DO know that if the EGI relay is not working, the car will not start or run.

yeah, sounds like the alternator to me. Get a voltmeter, check the voltage of the battery with the car off, and then check it with the car running. Charge your battery overnight or something (make sure it is full of water), or borrow one. If the alternator is running, the voltage should stay the same or go up. If it isn't running, it will drop .1-.4 volts on average.

Let us know how it goes.

be careful when checking the alternator. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. Could just be wires, or could be evil spirits.

Mine worked sometimes, but othertimes It would let me walk.
