Unhappy sr or trans or something took a dump :(

so i was driving around my 240 today, has a s14 sr20 swap and eventually what sounded like something rattling just keep get louder and louder and then i could feel vibrations getting stronger through the shifter and trans area. when i stepped on the gas and rattling or tapping, dare i say knocking sound got louder and there were some screeching sounds as well and the car barely wanted to go. if i have no idea what happend. ill try and get a video of the sounds its making if i decide to start it again. any input now would be great tho. thanks

Jack it up and get underneath of it. Look for any signs or something loose. Pull the inspection plate off the trans and look in there. Start the car, does it make the noise at idle? Does anything change when you step on the clutch pedal? Pull your coils off one at a time, does it go away with a certain cylinder? Drain the oil and see if there are any signs of metal in the oil. Cut your filter open and see if you find anything in there as well. There are lots of places to start looking.

Next time your engine starts to make noises and vibrations, stop and get a tow. I mean ... your engine is showing hard evidence of failing and you step on the gas pedal ?

Had you stopped, you most likely would have just had to change some bearings. Now you can be sure there is huge damage, probably the whole engine is going to the bin...

i guess it died from oil starvation, probably started at the head (camshaft oiling galleries getting blocked is a known problem on these, it kills the head and then the whole engine goes)

True story, I was having oil pressure issues once. Intake camshaft snapped at the end. Because it's an interference engine, the valves pierced the piston heads.

It sounded speed related to me. Either way, you're not in for an easy fix. I would check for a loose flywheel if it were me. Just so you know, you're motor and/or transmission or more than likely coming out, so just make peace with that now. But like croustibat said, Stop Driving The Car. The more you drive it, the worse it will be, if it's not too late already.
