New wheels barely rub, new tires? or pull?
Finally got some decent wheels, and i need some advide on how to make them fit. the wheels are 16x7 +0, current tires are 205/50's. i need to either pull the fender, or preferably, get smaller tires up front. the question is, how small? would 195/45 be good enough? also something i noticed, these tires have a huge "rim protector" the tires is about 1cm past the actual rim.
hers the wheels ![]() decent lip ![]() from above (BARELY doesnt make it) ![]() oh yeah, JIC SA-1 coilovers, camber plates maxed out. theyre rubbing about a cm from the edge of the tread, only a slight pull needed. all four corners are rolled |

holy shit those are nice rims... i wish i could find a pair like that... kinda hard to find 16's nowadays, wouldnt happen to have an extra set would u? Well u can pull the fenders and or get some stretched tires. How much camber are u running?

he mentioned that his camber was maxed out already but from the pics it doesn't look like it? i guess it must be the perspective. anyway, i'd go for tires.
edit: maybe lower it more to get more camber? (since you're already maxed) |

i think its the particular tires, the "rim-gaurd" part is really large. it looks like the rim would tuck fine, but the tire is out way past the edge of the wheel.
cant lower it anymore... ![]() ![]() better shot of the not-clearing ![]() camber plates are defenitly maxed, although it doesnt look like there is much camber? ![]() day time shot: would a 195-45 tire with no protector probably tuck? the current tires are rubbing right on the edge of the tread, like right before it drops down to the shoulder. |

um, ok, your camber plates are not maxed out, heres what you need to do, move the allen screws to diferent holes, thats why they are there, i can see in your 2nd to last picture that your infact not maxed out, you could also try loosening the bolts that attatch the coilover to the front hub, and push on the coilover, then retighten the bolts, you should be able to get atleast -5 degrees of camber out of camber plates, i run -3, and i have plenty of room left to move in on my cuscos, also i own a set of the same enkei 16x7 +0 offset wheels, and they tuck nicely with -3 camber, and i had 225 tires, my only problem is the rears rub cuz i havnt rolled the lip yet on the rear.

the plates wont go any further, the actual pillow ball part is up against the strut tower, moving the allen screws wont help, theres nowhere for the moving part of the camber plate to go. that picture is of the drivers side tower, taken from the front. it cant lean anymore. i dont think my JIC's are slotted where the coilover meets the spindle. ill go check, but im pretty sure it isnt...

there is sumthin definetly wrong with your car/coilovers, you should have shitloads of negative camber but, by your pictures, you have barely any. the same thing happened to my friends car, but his strut towers are bent, from when he folded the front tire under the car. hopefully this isnt your prob, cuz that means your whole frame is bent. your coilovers prolly arnt slotted, but sometimes there is some play and you can gain camber by making sure the top is all the way in, and the bottom is all the way out. btw, in my sig is a picture of my enkeis installed on my car, but, the front has a 15mm spacer, so they are -15 offset in that picture.

Looking at the pic from the front view something definetly isn't right.
Even if you had as little as -1 to -1.5 camber it would be clearly visible, but yours doesn't look like it has any. ![]()

wtf... the frame isnt bent... no accidents, nothing. STB fits perfectly, engine swapped fine. this is really confusing... with the stock wheels, and the plates there you can see some massive camber, but with the enkies it kinda goes away... i have no idea. the JIC's arent slotted, any other options? other than figure out what the hell is wrong with my car?

your stb is also adjustable, so how would u know by the stb? you can only really tell if your stb is a rigid design, but thats besides the point, im jus telling you my expierence. the only time ive seen coilovers maxed out on camber, but still with no camber, was with a bent chassis. the only other solution is to roll/pull your fenders, roll the lip on the fenders, if it still rubs, pull em. other than that, your pretty shit outa luck i guess, u need to roll the lip on the rears anyways, roll the front lip too.

are you sure that the offset is 0? they look pretty flush for o offset. mt volk wheels are +25 and they are just as flush. Every other car i have seen with that offset has crazy amounts of tire sticking out.

yeah, they are defenitly +0, remeber theyre only 7" wide. im already of smelling burnt rubber constantly, and ive only had them for a day, haha. i think im just gonna put some normal 205/50s on there, no massive riim guard.

your front fenders just need more rolling, and eyeballing acutal camber is not going to tell you much. I run massive camber all around and sometimes it even looks like i have positive camber when the car sits differently.

the fenders cant be rolled anymore, theyre flat. in order to clear with this camber, and these tires theyll have to be pulled. im about to go check some local places for tires, see if i can find decent 205/45 or 50 with no rim guard.

that's just odd man, my camber plates are barely half way in and you can see the negative camber in my front with plain sight. a quick solution (if the plate itself has more room to go a little, which it looks like you do) would be to use a grinder to take the slight lip off of the top of the strut tower where the pillow ball hits it, that would net you a hair more neg camber up front.

well your rim gaurd isnt your problem, if your rubbing on the tread of the tire, then the rim protection has nuthin to do with the rubbing, and good luck running 205/45/16, you will pay an arm and a leg, i would seriously look into your suspension/frame, sumthing isnt right with your car,

yeah, youre right. i dont see how my chassis can be very messed up... ive swapped the engine, and front crossmember, both fit fine. any way blown ball joint could have anything to do with this? mine are completely shot. i raised up up like a cm or two, it wont rub anymore but it is still outside the body. i think im gonna slot the JIC brackets, that will help some.
oh, and i got the wheels off this site, they were in the "wheels for sale" setion (kinda obvious ehh?) tires arent very great, but they still smoke ![]() Last edited by black s13; 04-28-2004 at 10:00 PM.. |

ive got a question, did you buy your coilovers new or used? did they come assembled? jack up the car, and look at the camber plate from the bottom, is the camber plate round, with the strut in the center, or is it offcenter? jus wondering if maybe the camber plates are screwed on the wrong way. i dunno, im shooting in the dark now. i jus cant figure out y your camber is non existent.
