from what i understand all Ka's will fit into that car :89-90 engines had a single overhead cam (sohc) ~145hp and 91+ are dual overhead (dohc) ~155hp. You could also go to a sr20det (jap power house!) red or black top ~205hp, it's turbo'd.

But it depends what you want to do with the car...race/daily driver/etc...but i would put in a 91+ dohc...look in the for sale forum, some guys sell their old Ka cheap when they do the sr swap.

good luck, i hoped i helped you!

if you just want it to get running i would suggest 89-90, otherwise you will have to do some wiring and other stuff and cost will get larger.

the SEARCH button works wonders.
any s13-s15 engine will fit, but only the KA24E will drop right in w/o changing a whole lot of stuff.
If the seller wants more than $800-1k for the car, you're getting ripped off.

well i just need a ka for now to get it smogged and all that great stuff since im in san diego. the guy wants like less than 300 so i feel it should be a great deal if i can find a super cheap motor. i plan to go redtop down the line with the car after suspension mods and all that great stuff but my turbo impreza is hard enough on gas as it is :P

good deal man, go for it!
with the damn popularity of SRs and even RBs now, KA's are a dime a dozen... dohc is even in production until 2005 I believe.

If you wanna go SR later down the road.. might as well find the cheapest single cam KA you can find (that is still running though)
besides, 300 dollars for that pignose with blown engine is a really good deal IMO.
