240sx gasket

i bought a 89 240sx 4 months ago from an old lady that bought it in 89 brand new. so i changed cap/rotor , spark plugs , o2 sensor , swap the auto to manual and uses 20 50 oil now. runs well but i think i might need to change the gasket but i bought a new gasket valve already. will the head gasket last me ? the mileage on the car so 123,071 when i got it not it 127,666. so if i need to change a new gasket should i or not and what kind a metal head gasket or cosmetic gasket?

I sense so many damn things wrong on the OP.

Why are people and their KA's running some heavy ass oil like 15w-50?!?! You live in California, for god's sake.

If I understand correctly, I think you're saying you already bought the valve cover gasket & plan on replacing that, but you're also wondering if you need to replace the head gasket as well...

Unless you're blowing smoke out of your tailpipe, I'd say leave the head gasket alone. But I guess it can't hurt, as long as the work is done right. What makes you think you need to replace the head gasket? Just the mileage or something else?

And I typically use 5w-30 oil...

Woohoo! 3000th post!

Even in Illinois, we run 5w-30 year round (not in my SR, but every other vehicle). WHY would you need 20w-50?

240sx gasket

I'm with DJ 21o3, in Illinois messed up cold weather 5w30 runs great in my daily KA, it's got double the OP's mileage, 20w50 is just going too far, I'm assuming this is the OP's first car??
