Clutch issues, slipping/lack of engagement
Ok first off here's the setup I'm working with:
90 S13 original automatic now 5spd 95 KADE S14 clutch pedal S14 clutch master Exedy OEM replacement with about 2500 miles on it The Problem: During normal driving I have not had any issues. However, living in ATL I do sit in absolutely terrible traffic often. After stop-and-go for awhile my clutch starts to slip a bit. I figured this was probably an issue with the pedal so I played with the adjustment a bit. Now it will only work with the mc completely screwed into the pedal and its slipping almost constantly. I set it to exactly where it was before and have the same issue. The engagement is also extremely high, like my foot is almost off the pedal by the time it grabs. Anyone have any ideas? I don't drive the car everyday but I really would like to get this figured out soon since the weather is getting nice.

Sounds like you have a lot of air in the line. Try bleeding it again and see. Definitely the symptoms of air in the line.

Don't wanna sound like a dick but this isn't true at all. If there was air in the lines it would be hard to disengage the clutch. His sounds like its more or less disengaged all the time. Try adjusting it a lil more i guess that's my only idea.

You dont sound like it and it depends because air in the line will disengage but only engage at the very end. The car I just recently bought is very similar as it has no fluid in the resivior at all and just a little in the line itself. Disengages the clutch but only at the very end of letting off the pedal. Thats why I brought up air. If he has it this way and then adjusts the bar behind the pedal too far in where it pushes enough to disengage the clutch, would make sense.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It was well bled at install, I made sure of that. I figured out what was causing the problem. The s14 pedal is slightly different from the s13 pedal. When I installed it I failed to align it with the upper bolt on the pedal. This caused the pedal to sit too close to the firewall which pretty much eliminated any chance of it being adjusted properly. Once I positioned the pedal correctly it was really easy to get it adjusted.

I have a 95 s14 with what appears to be the same exact issue. I purchased the car and noticed that the clutch engagement point was as soon as you start to lift your foot off the pedal from the floor, or at the beginning of pedal release travel.
I drove it this way for a few months with no issues. After about 4 months of stop and go traffic I started to experience slip. Thinking the clutch was about burned out, since the vehicle has 226k miles on it, I ordered another new clutch. In the mean time I tried adjusting the adjustment bolt. There was no adjustment that resulted in a pedal engagement near the center of pedal travel. It would either be at the very bottom or very top of pedal travel. Sometimes it would take a few seconds to even engage and produce forward motion.. Fast forward to today, I have replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, and pressure plate, and bleed the system. With a brand new clutch I still experience clutch engagement at the top or bottom of the pedal travel. I would like some insight as to what I am missing, as I am already experiencing slip of the clutch from first with the pedal fully released. |
