Electrical issues!:#*(&^!

I've been having some problems somewhere in the charging system of my 93 240.

I've replaced the alternator, both battery terminals, negative cable, and the fusible link for the alternator. To have less wires to mess with, I removed the ground wire system that I had installed.

After installing the alternator two days ago, everything seemed normal. There was a little squel at start up that I had planned to work on today. Went out to run an errand, and the car was dead; completely. Luckily, someone was coming over, so when they arrived, I jumped it. It died after taking off the cables the first time, but continued running after the second jump.

When I got in the car the tach was bouncing all over the place. At idle it was reading around 3 to 4k and would respond fairly normally to acceleration, although bouncing the entire time. Nothing else seems to be affected. The only codes it reads are 21 (ignition) and 33 (o2). The ignition code is most likely caused by my MSD SCi. And the o2 reading is probably from it running rich for quite some time, as it has had the code through 2 sensors.

I thought my problem was the alt not feeding enough power and the fuel pump wasn't putting out the needed volume, with my regulator being my second diagnosis. The car did have much better response and had little or no hesitation versus the old alternator.

So my question is what is causing the tach to be acting so crazy and what could be draining my battery overnight?

Thanks in advance
