240sx differential question?

Hi just out of curiosity, I was reading this link from nico club about different differental gear ratios. here is the link.
http://forums.nicoclub.com/the-ultim...d-t228683.html

How should I understand the gear ratios? I have a s13 vlsd in my 240sx. out of all of the nissan differentials, which gives higher topspeed and less acceleration? I have KA24DERT in my car and acceleration is crazy in my ka. however I reach top speed really fast. Let me know what you think. thanks.

You have a twin charged KA but can't figure out how to google?
Gear ration is # of teeth on the ring gear / # of teeth on the pinion.
If you go "larger" like stepping up from a 3.9 to a 4.3, your off the line acceleration improves but your top speed decreases, and vice versa.

thank you for your reply. I just wanted clarification. I had a rough idea of gear ratios. just never put the time to actually think about it. so what do you think about the q45 vlsd differential in s13? too heavy? I was thinking about getting it because gear ratio is 3.5

Stock 4.08 will do over 170 mph with a 7k rpm redline and decently sized tires.

A lower ratio gear will just make you slower if you can't pull to redline in 5th, which I don't think you have the power to do. Less drive wheel torque only makes since if you actually have too much in 5th gear and easily pull to redline.

Brndck is correct. 3.9 gear ratio you will go through gears faster and top out sooner. 4.03 or 4.08 is mo betta in my experience.

so has money to build super awesome ka that tops out 5th but cant figure out how to do simple math(gear ratios)? In for vids of said troll car topping out 5th with ANY gear ratio you can put in it.
