s13 Sr ECU has weird chip! What is this???

Hey guys.

Went to my buddies shop today to look for an sr ecu (mine fried) and I found a #62 ecu with this weird chip. I know its a tune of some sort but what type of tuner is this and what would it make my car run like?

On to the pics,

There is no way to tell what the tune is just by looking at it. Many times tuners will write on the inside of the cover what it's set for, but if not, you'll need someone with tuning software to be able to read it.

It's an older style board used mostly in japan, Someone used a copy of them for their first boards, no names! I also think they were mostly odd/even and they used uv erase chips. you could use the sst 27c256 IIRC probably others as well.

The problem here is the board has been repaired, I would not try to start my car with that until, I had a chance to dump the bins and have a professional look at the tune, run diagnostics on the ecu, from an led test to maf, cas and cts fault checks. Then maybe I would run it in my car.

How do you know it has been repaired? And is there any possibility this could be a nistune tune?

I have a lot of those boards laying around, I actually pulled 1 out for verification. That wire running to the board is the repair. Random yellow wire caught my eye first.

Someone could have made a tune from a nistune board or program then burnt the chips for that board.

Sent from my Highly Tuned Galaxy S3.4!!!

You should look up what Nistune is, as that has been explained as being an old Japanese style daughter board.

The wires running all over the board are concerning. It looks like it's repairing some busted traces, which is worrying.

Wow I was way off. I was under the impression that would connect to a dial to switch tunes. I will admit I can build a mean 900hp 2j which I have done. But tuning is left to the pros when it comes to my shops builds hahah. Thanks for your expertise cotbu

I dont know about the 2 wires being there for repair, but I have seen in the Honda world wires added like that for RTP.

Also, I have an abundance of 27SF512's if OP wants to reflash the ecu.

Do you mean Real-time Transport Protocol? This Nissan ecu streams data constantly, whether consult is connected or not, Oh! consult is the interface device, name of the plug, and sometime the protocol, but generally the diagnostic interface.

sidewayzcraze has to determine how data is written on those chips, and he has to know where that data starts from, if he gets larger chips.
There also the possibility those chips won't work.

Again this board isn't capable, without emulators.
