![]() I have been searching endlessly for awnsers on how to identify between an s14 notchback and an s15 engine.
What is the difference and how do you identify it? I know if you take off the vavle cover peice the s14 notch uses fat coil packs and the s15 uses skinny ones but are there any other ways to identify it? |

If it is a full motor set look at the ECU code, if it is a stock S15 motor look at the turbo, and fuel injectors. The fuel injectors will be a Brick Red color. other than that I believe they look the same.

Leaky Injector

S15 has fins on the head, l shaped coils and the ecu is shaped really oddly in comparison to the other sr.
Also will have bigger injectors and the larger turbo. Other than that practically identical

There were 5 speed S15's. Coils, Fuel injectors, Turbo, Harness and ECU are ways to tell. As stated above.

S14 SRs have igniters, S15s have the igniter built into the coils. S15 coils are also a much thinner diameter, so it's pretty obvious if you look at the coils or pull them.

how did anybody notice this? I think a picture would be awesome! And kouki = S14 so how does this help? It could be a 98 S14 kouki sr20 or a 99 S15 sr20, which does not help identify...

I know it doesn't distinguish between s14 kouki and s15 but if the bolt is the fatter version then it at least narrows it down to a zenki. Just a little tid bit.
