register a salvage in CA

alrighty... so its been 9 months and I still dont have insurance and the car is supposed to be salvaged because it was deemed a no-repair total loss about 2 months ago... so I took the money and spent it... and I've been driving everyday for the past 9 months... now i figure that I should register and insure it before I get busted. my question(s):

When I get the salvage certificate, how do I re-register it? I read the DMV thing and it says that I need CHP to check it and have a shop check the lights before I re-reg it. So.. since this accident was just a door hit with no frame damage, will the CHP pass my car even though I didnt repair it? And how am I supposed to get the CHP to check it if Im not legally supposed to drive it to CHP because I will have to surrender the license plates and title to the DMV when I get the salvage certificate?

thanks for any help.

You should be in jail!!! If you woulda hit somebody, you woulda been screwed... anyways, DMV should give you a temporary registration paper that you stick in the window. But you gotta pay for those.

yea.. ive been pushing my luck... good thing I havent been caught yet... and when I got into the accident, my car was registered but she actually believed that a couple numbers i wrote down on a piece of paper were my insurance numbers... so, i didn't get a ticket for that accident - good thing it wasnt my fault too! I also drive down to the bay every week and have been down to so-cal twice since the accident. But yea, thanks for the info on the temporary registration paper... question though, the salvage process is two step: they will give me a temp reg paper when I get the salvage certificate so I can drive around til the CHP inspects the car?
