check engine light won't turn off 98 kouki
so I just got my 98 kouki about last week. when I bought it, the guy said that the only problem was that my front o2 sensor burned out (which I changed 2 days ago). but then the CEL was still on, which I found odd since that was the only flaw with the car. I went to a friend, who's a mechanic, told me that the tranny has been switched from automatic to manual. He said that the CKP sensor has been modified, it had a washer and tape for some reason so it could fit in the tranny which, he installed a new one for me. And, the downstream o2 sensor has been converted to an upstream and also burned out (idk why lol.) I also replaced the o2 sensor near the catalytic which was the converted one. Still, the CEL is on. My car also doesn't have a neutral safety switch. Any reason why my CEL is still on and how can I take it off? Thank you!

Have your mechanic friend pull the codes for you and fix the codes it is throwing....\ thread
Ps. Its probably still got a AT ecu and needs to be wired correctly once the MT ecu is installed. Also use the small questions thread for little questions like this to get better help and not get flamed. |

You will have a CEL on a 98 S14 until you get a manual ecu. The auto ECU freaks out when it doesnt see an Automatic Transmission. There is also a crank shaft position sensor that goes on top of a manual transmission and I am not sure if you need that one as well and the Manual ECU or just a manual ECU. Gotta hate buying unfinished projects cars.

Here I will help you out a little.
http://www.ka24development.com/cwilf...lectrical.html You will need the correct ECU for a 1997- 1998 that is an MT. There is the way the wiring should be when a manual ECU is connected. However the step where he says don't connect is false if you use a manual ECU. I connected it and no more CEL, however I would cross reference your wire pin out on the on the ECU to make sure you have the correct wires lol especially since you are cutting into your factory harness. If you can get ahold of an Factory service manual (FSM) for a 1998 240sx it will be you best friend for any other repair you may need to tackle. |
