what's the best SMIC?

i know there are aftermarker side mounts out there and i've heard of people using an s15 side mount or a supra side mount. anyone have any tips on what would be the best bang for the buck without going front mount?

I just put in an s15 sidemount in my s14. It bolted right in and my boost went from .5 bar to .8 bar. Runs great with no problems so far and the boost is nice. IIRC from what I've read the s15 smic is good for 300-320 whp.

Yeah, if you got a fucking great deal on an ARC (which usually cost BANK) that's what you should go for. Otherwise, I would probably suggest an S15 SMIC, which I hope is bigger than an S13 SMIC.

You could even get a aftermarket intercooler and top mount it if you're going for stealth.

the only reason i got the s15 smic is because i found it by chance and it was in perfect condition. the s15 smic is about 1/2" thicker than the s14 smic so yes it's more efficient but a front mount is still much more efficient. I hear the arc smic goes for around $1000 so u might as well go front mount for that money. I got my s15 smic with all the piping for $150

ARC = TOP

I have one.

S15's are not bad... you dont need the pipings, you can just unbolt the endtank pipings or whatever from your S13/14 SMIC and bolt them onto the S15 so it'll line up good and all. Or so it appears. I haven't tried it. But if not, get some hoses from home depot. Total cost = $2

Oh and I have a S15 SMIC for sale if anyone's interested... PM me

I would say go with a fmic, but you can paint it black using specialty radiator spraypaint in order to keep it low profile..... a company called eastwood makes this spray and it's cheap for all the headache it could save ya. linky below.

Yeah,I'd be interested in knowing what kind of boost you can run with the S15 SMIC and what is involved in mounting it,as well.

I tried finding an ARC SMIC for sale online, but no such luck from any engrish sites. (Yes there is one on the boards for sale, but it'll be gone before my cash is available)

90-94 DSM sidemount will be by far your best dollar value side mount.

Good for 300+hp, usually costs less than $20, cut 1 hole on an S13 and it bolts right on.

I am currently using a 1g dsm sidemount. I am very pleased. It's core dimensions are 4" thick x6x8. On my s14 I did not have to cut any holes on the drivers side, I just had pipes going into the hole in the side and went down beside the fender.

I geuss it would help if I knew where the OEM SMIC actually goes

I'm going SR soon and have a high powered stereo,so slim-line battery is not an option nor do I want to relocate my battery(for now) so I'm trying to get the best SMIC for the money b/c I don't know how long I'll be runnning it.

The S15 IC bolts up to S14 SR piping. S13 SR will require you to swap endtanks with the S13 intercooler. (They unbolt)

ARC IC is superior to the S15 intercooler as the dimensions are slightly larger AND it flows more air (the ARC is practically a bar & plate design).

The ARC IC can do 300HP easy, I'm notsure about the S15 one, but I would venture to guess it would come close... I wouldn't run more than a bar on either one though, thats just me being paranoid...

R32/33 FMIC will fit our cars but you need custom piping (duh)... and the ICs are not easy to get/are pricey unless you know people in Japan... its a very popular upgrade.

For those who are interested, I do have a S15 IC for sale... buy it from me

im startin to think an smic would be the best way for me to go too.
im planning on running low boost and dont really want to drop much cash on a big front mount. ive seen a lot of the dsm sidemounts up on ebay for not too much. they all flow alrite and fit ok?

anyone know the inlet/outlet size on the s15?
