I've never purchased a car from auction before. It's an 89 hatch, auto, bone stock fwiw. The auction is at a local wrecking yard that holds the auctions for cars that were towed by the city. I have seen the car drive around town, and then it was parked in front of a house for a year until the tags expired and it was towed.

Odds a locksmith can cut a new key (and if not, the cost of new ignition and locks)? Will I have to file for a lost title? Any advice is much appreciated!

If the title is in your name and reg'd to you with an ID, any locksmith worth his salt will make you a key.

Sometimes once in a blue moon junk yards will have keys attached.... Sometimes lol

Look in the glove compartment. Should have a sticker there with a key code. Take it to a shop and have them make a copy. Cost me around $15.

If the sticker isn't there, another thing you can do it, take apart the left passenger door and use the key code from the lock cylinder.

Taking the lock cylinder to a locksmith is your best bet.

My locksmith says he'd need the passenger door handle to make a key.
