Door sensor problem?

When I open my doors, the dome light doesn't come on, and the car doesn't beep, even if the keys are in the ignition. I don't think it could be the sensors themselves, as it's unlikely that both would not work. I know it's not the light, and turning it on manually works, and the beeping is still absent. Any idea what the problem could be?

Just do what I did and unplug the damn thing. 2 wires going to a yellow box(white plug).

Only the driver's door trips the key buzzer.

You didn't state what year your car is, on S14s there is a 'smart entrnace control' unit, it controls the doorlocks, domelight, key buzzer, and rear defogger timer. On S13s there's a 'timing control' unit, similiar to the S14 but does less functions, that could be bad.

I've got an S14. Don't think it's the SEC, as I have manual locks, and my defogger functions properly.

Oh, did he? Wish he'd told me before he sold me the car. Not a big deal, but I still would like to have known....

Could be a couple of things....(before you start though, check your fuses first)...could be a bad fuse...doubtful though...but better to be safe.
1). When you turn your car on, or put the ignition to ACC, do you see the little Open Door symbol on your dash?? If you do, then it shouldn't be the door wires.
2). Does your car have a car alarm?? Is it stock or aftermarket? Stock should work...unless the smart entrance control unit no longer works....or the wire has been cut leading to the dome light - this applies to both stock & aftermarket
3). Have you checked the dome light itself?? I believe the switch is a three way switch..and slides both left AND right...one of those positions is the OFF position...one is the manual ON position & the other is the DOOR open/ON position. Try sliding the switch & opening the doors...see if that works.
4). As for the door chime, the previous owner probably just disconnected it. It's easy to reach underneath the dash & disconnect the harness. Stick your head underneath the dashboard & look around for a small harness hanging down next to a small white square box. Plug that harness into the box & your door chime should start working again.
Anyhow, try this stuff...see if it helps...
Good luck!!

Cars without locks have a defogger timer, and a then a separate buzzer/domelight control unit, so that could be your problem after all. You'll see two distinct units under the dash, to the left of the column. I forget which one is which, but you'll know by trial and error.

I have a similar problem on my S14 that I just cannot figure out. When I open the passenger door the door buzzer will work and so will the door ajar light, but the dome does not. The dome light does, however, work with the passenger door and the dome switch. It is so annoying, any ideas?
