christ... giant crack passenger side floorboard

i was ripping up the carpeting and noticed a goddamn giant freaking crack in the passenger side floorboard. no clue how long it's been there, i've had the car for about a year now... at any rate, my heart dropped into my stomach. i took a better look at the crack and it hasn't gone too far yet. the center of the crack pattern is centered near the ECM and it hasn't spread under the seat yet.

i've heard of people punching through their floorboards before, and having a shop weld a piece of metal in its place. i also toyed with the idea of welding it (not that i know anything about welding). so i just sprayed the underside with rubber coating for fear of rust; luckily there appears to be none... i think my leaky oil seal was good for something - it coated large portions of the underside of the car.

at any rate, what are my options here? and what can i expect to pay? thanks.

you should stop usin the NOS so much, did you check and see if the bolts fell off? ...or did you shift 8 times and that happened? if you shifted 2 more times, it would have fell completely!

ummm... you should take it to a reputable body shop and have them do the once over. If you have rust there, you probably have it in other spots too. That sucks.

There's only one solution, Call Xzibit and tell him to pimp yo' Ride!!

But seriously, that's usually a bad sign of rust like nightwalker said take it to a shop and have them check it out.

lmao... i was so pissed before i missed the FnF reference. god, half of me wants to dump this car and get a s14 that hasn't had the shit beat out of it.

oh well. i've taken a good look at it and there isn't any rust... seems like a fresh crack. i did hit a bump pretty hard the other night but i can't believe it would crack the fucking floor.

i sprayed the whole area to hell with rubber spray to keep it from rusting for now. after labor day i gotta find a welder or a shop to fix it. argh.

just an idea... but you could have them weld the crack and if your still not happy have them weld a patch over it it should help for not cracking anymore

Ouch man! My dad used to drive a '76 F250 as his daily driver, and the passenger floorboard rusted through pretty bad. He cut out the rusted part, sprayed it with sealer stuff to keep it from rusting again. Then he took two sheets of thin aluminum(IIRC,I was really young) and had about 6 inches extra around the entire hole, lined the outer inch or so of the aluminum with JB weld, and used a shitton rivets to make sure it wasn't going anyway while the JB cures.... Of course he put a peice on the top,and the bottom. Never had a problem since....that musta been or more years ago now...and once we put new carpet in,you can't tell

yeah I was swapping my engine when I noticed a huge rust spot on the frame and the floor board. for the frame I welded a thick plate over it, but for the floor board...
well, ideally I would have cut and welded it in.
but it was 1 am. so I thought I'd drill and rivet it. By the time I cut and shaped the sheet metal (it was the curvy part) I ended up just cutting the rust off and using some epoxy to put the new one in over it.

Be like Van and start downshifting in a drag race !!!!!!
Or tell your GF to loose a coulpe of lbs

But seriously.
I would rivet the sucka and not worry about it.
use something to stop the moisture from getting in and you should be set.
Hot rod guys replace a lot of floor boards and the cars run fine.

thanks for the suggestions... i feel a bit better now that i've worked with it a little. the crack is on the floorboard only. when it meets the weld it cracks along the weld instead of spreading outwards. for now i just jb welded the crap out of it, top and bottom, and sprayed the bottom of the car with a can's worth of rubber spray. i might cut it out eventually if it gives me problems.

still pisses me off thinking about it. :P

wow its shaped like a red x!! man that is bad.. hehe jk

Edit- Copy and paste http://images.ofoto.com/photos794/3/...6306_0_ALB.jpg

I dont think it would be enough to cause structual integraty diffferences in the chassis.. maybe just be a good excuse to put on some chassis braces (cusco, doluck etc)

Rust is like a disease. It spreads, hurry quick before it eats up everything...

I had a rust spot on my door and I thought nothing of it (quarter size). 2 months later, it grew to about a whole paper dollar's worth and made my side molding come off. (on my supra).

its also worth noting that hot rod/pick up guys do this all the time but the body isn't a stressed structural member. we have unibodies... its a lil different.
