KA/SR/CA transmission oil gutter broke off

Hey folks,
I recently rebuilt my transmission and we had the small oil gutter piece break off and so we left it off. Now I notice that my tranny seems to leak a lot more oil from the rear seal (where drive shaft connects). Is this because I am missing that oil gutter piece or I just need another new rear tranny seal? What exactly does that oil gutter piece do? prevent oil from getting into the rear of the tranny? I do not find a part number for that oil gutter piece. Anybody have any experience with fabbing up something else for that piece?

IT helps lubricate the gears. Is it needed? I can't say as I don't know anyone to not have it.

With that said, I doubt it has anythign to do with the leaky trans seal though.

so the rear gets filled with oil and then when you brake or go down hill the oil goes through that hole and when it reaches the gutter it splashes the oil on the gears?

IT's more of an oil control type thing, not so much something 'make or break' it helps take deflected oil and controls it back towards the drain/pool of oil
