Shave or no shave?

Just got a S14 Kouki JDM front bumper....hmmmm....was just wondering if i should shave the license plate rectangular piece off before I paint it. I've heard people doing this but only problem is that SoCal cops require your front license =\...anyone else have ideas?

(BTW..off subject but if anyone has S14 JDM fogs LMK! )

Thanks
Chris

eh, i'll probably smooth mine when i have the extra money to waste. I'll mount my front plate on the bottom corner near my turnsignal or something. Not that i'm trying to emulate our japanese counterparts but i've always hated the way front plates look in the middle of the frickin bumper. And that goes for any car. To me it just throws of the lines of car with it all in the middle like that.

But in reality, i probably wont get around to doing it for another 2 years or so. haha

my stock chuuki bumper doesn't have holes for a plate, so i keep mine in my windshield (illegal). i got stopped for it by chp once but he let me go with warning.
i'm planning on eventually putting it under the passenger side blinker, with some sort of home made bracket.

depends on how "cheap" you can get someone to graft new polyurethane onto the bumper.
This isnt something you can successfully do with fiberglass.

That's where mine was when i had my chuki front end, but its dumb because it blocks the brake duct thing... whatever, depends on the driving you do i guess. It looks good, but i see no problem with putting it where it belongs...

Fuck the COPS, SHAVE it! But don't blame me when u get pulled over. The front plate law is such BS anyway. The only reason it's required is so they have something to bounce their radar off of.

that's not much different than if he'd actually cited you for it. then you would have had to put it on. big deal. then you get it signed off and you are on your way.

How do you shave it and make it look right? Its urethane and bondo won't stick well to it.

Yeah, on US cars those side grilles are useless. Pignoses don't have them. They're there for the SMIC on turbocharged cars in other markets.

Do what you want... don't let us dictate your opinion. Personally, I'd leave it on and mount the front plate. Your whole car is a radar target, the front plate has nothing to do with that. Corvettes can run front plates, that center panel pops out and there's a plate bracket behind it. I see Corvettes with front plates all the time.

i see corvettes without a plate way more often than with a plate.

when i got stopped for my plate, it was also for speeding, exhaust, and no seatbelt. so warning only is good for me! maybe having a cute girl in the car helps some.

that's why you don't use bondo to fix it

i used some kinda purple stuff to cure my bumper of front license plate holes.

"i just got it back from the body shop and i never had a front plate anyhow"

the joys of buying used

Yea, I have been pulled over for the front plate...now that I have a SR I take no chances...hence the clean, angled down, Bomex bumper...
