Hey guys i have a '91 HB w/ abs and my brakes are squeaking really bad and it has been getting worse over hte last month. So i assume that the brake pags need to be done cause its been awhile since its been done(30,000mi). Well im keeping the stock ABS brakes so what are some decent(cheap) brake pads to get? Is OEM as good as any other pad assuming everything else is stock? Thanks guys!

get OEM. I got some pads from a local auto store and they squeak so much it's irritating! I'm switching to OEM, I've been told that all aftermarket pads squeak.

30,000 miles?  They're squealing b/c you've probably worn them down to the squealers.  Get some pads from AutoZone.

I know they are worn out, my question is if any aftermarket pads will give me better braking than OEM with the rest of the brake stock?

I've yet to try any performance pads, but do intend to to get some Hawk HP's for track events.
You may want to look into the HPStreets or some Axxis MM pads.

I used to have Bendix pads on my old 90, and they worked better than other pads I had used.  got them at AdvancedAuto.  I have a set of Axxis Metal Masters comming.  Ordered them 2 days ago.  I hear they are a really nice performance pad.  They were like $42 at Nismoparts.com.  The Hawk HP's are suppose to be Race pads..  Not all aftermarket pads squeak.  

There are lots of pads to choose from.  Look around.

i have raybestos pg plus pads, and they're really good. they're a nice semi-metallic performance pad. alotta of performance pads squek, but mine just need to warm up. after that they're fine.

I bought some Carbotech Super Street-F pads, and just put them on Sat. The guy at meineke said that they were really good pads. They say that you're supposed to let them break in for a couple 100 miles before heavy braking so I haven't really tried them out yet, but I can allready tell they bit a little harder than stock. They don't make any noise at all as far as I can tell. The only pads that will squeak real bad would be metallic pads. These pad are made of some kind of ceramic I think. However, they were pretty expensive $199 for all four shipped to my door.

Lance - I think the HPs should be okay for track days.  If you have the extra money ($136 shipped), I really think CarboTech Panther +'s are worth it.  They can be used on the street (with mixed reviews), but they stop like mad on a track.

My instructor this weekend (who owns an s14) said that after riding in my car he was having second thoughts on the z32 upgrade.  The quote was something like "It stops fast AND you've got brakes all day!"  So far, they have 4 track days, a few autoxes, and about 4000 total miles on them - and are just now looking worn.  My guess would be 1, maybe 2 more track days and no more street driving.

Gismo - I expect to hear a full review after you've bedded them and broken them in.  I was thinking about that compound for street/autox use.

if u want pad life,go to auto zone, lifetime waranty, meanign, u keep nringing them back, and its like 20 for the front, and 12 for the rears
LIFE TIME FRIENDS, u can ride ur brakes all day, and go to a race track, and burn ur pads out, bring back ur F'ed up pads, and have them replaced.  thats what i call investment savings

Granted I don't have stock brakes, but I've been running Axxis MM pads for nearly 8 months at all four corners on my '95. Coupled with Brembo x-drilled rotors the fade and dust is minimal for daily driving. I have yet to do an auto-crossing session with them so I can't help you there.

I wouldn't think running the Axxis pads with OEM rotors would be much more of a difference to my set-up...plus they can be found pretty cheap for a performance pad. I got mine from www.Coximports.com for $80 all the way around.

..forgot to mention that since having them I have yet to hear one squeal from them. Just take precautions and get some of that grease you appply to the back of the pads to prevent squeal...works like a charm!
