so heres my 1st question... my 93' 240 grinds everytime i crank it the first time.  But when i crank it again, its perfectly fine...  <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>  so can i take the starter out of my 89' 240 (partscar) ?... will this fit? are they the same? is the problem even the starter?

looks like starter part no's are the same, so yes.

the starter bendix gear could have worn or broken teeth, or the flywheel ring gear (5spd) or flexplate (auto) may have worn or broken teeth. this causes grinding or jumping. for your sake, hope it's the starter! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':crazy:'>

cruise upgrade.....many Japanese cars came "wired" for all accessories available at that time, but may not have the actual option, ie cruise. that would make life real easy. get a FSM wire diagram and see if you have those wires. i know the turnsignal switch assy is diff for cruise, cuz thats where the contacts r for electrical hookup to the wheel (researched when modding my S14&#33<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

The starter motor gear connects to the engine via the toothed edge of the flywheel.
