Silk Roads vs. KTS vs. Stance Coilovers...
I'm torn....
looking for something that will be good for the street (DD duties) so nothing that will kill my kidneys. I live in Boston so lots of crack and potholes, also a lot of road salt so something that has some form of corriosion protection. The car will also be used for Auto-X and occasional hill-run. From what I've researched with the research button, it seems like KTS is a good bet (rebuildablity), but with the new product in question (Stance) I was just wondering how they compare with each other??? also what do you guys think about Silkroads also....I know they are a bit more but is it really worth it? Don't Flame... I've done my research... just looking for some opinions...

Thats really funny cause those are the only 3 sets of coil overs that I have driven on. KTS and Stance are very close performance wise and both are more agressively valved than Silk Roads. IMO silk roads are THE BEST for DD duty's. As far as durability in the salt, forget it. A car cant live through that period. KTS's are only $500 for new shocks with no down time, so that is probably your best bet if you plan on driving in the salt.

If you live in Canada you get used to swapping out your coilovers for stock suspension every winter....either that or buy a cheap winter beater.
I've been driving on the Stance for about a week and so far I love them! Potholes are not my friend however! even on full soft (with 8/7 springs) the ride is pretty harsh over bad pavement.....but on a slick surface the ride and response is awsome! |

They are all gonna be similar daily drivability wise. They are all pretty stiff, but IMO STANCE and Silk Roads are valved a ton better than KTS. KTS are just stiff, but not valved very smoothly, in other words they seem a lot more bouncy.
Silk Roads are hard on rebuilds, and he most expensive, but they are still great coilovers. But to me Stance is just a stiffer Silk Road.

Well, Dorifto Slut's FLT-A2s have had the spring slops in the rear for awhile now, and his is still not blown.
In fact, it out lasted Dousan's Tanabe DD coilovers that also had spring slop in the rear. However, I know for a fact that Kookz's KTS are still not blown, and the rear coilovers have quite a bit of spring slop, but Johny5's KTS has been blown in like, 10,000 miles, or less, I don't remember, and don't wanna look it up right now. So it seems that it's kind of inconsistent as far as the "having spring slop will blow your shocks in no time" goes. |

Stewart rolled his shocks full stiff daily. I'm drooping my KTS about 10mm and I've yet to have a problem. they have about 10K miles on them... KTS are perfect for what they are, I've been trying to sort out a way to make them better with swift springs and new (shorter) shock inserts, but I won't be trying too hard for a while. |

I went with KTS based on other peoples reviews and price... Nice to have the aluminum 300zx uprights too.
I have yet to install my suspension components though so dont have a say in ride quality |

McRussell are you running the KTS on soft or what? And do you have S13 or S14?
Initially I was gonna go with KTS, but since the Stance came out, I changed my mind to the Stance. Another like $400 and I'll have enough for a set of Stance coils lol |

YO YO YO YO.
Sold my JICs. Got Stance. At first I was dissapointed b/c w/ comparable spring rates (8/7) STANCE is way softer. Too soft for my liking. That is mostly b/c of the longer stroke to their front shock. Rear felt great. JICs are very very short stroke shock in the front. Plus the JICs were a bit preloaded on 8ks, and the STANCE was not. So. I swapped out the 8k for a 9k and preloaded it about a 1/4 inch. PERFECT. go check out the "How low" thread to see pics of my car from a week or so ago. IMHO, i would def. reccomend STANCE. My problems were from very aggressive wheel fitment. 18x9.5 +3 w/ 225/40/18 on S13 is TOUGH to clear at full compression, full lock at top of 3rd gear! All you show fags can say what you want about your 18x10 -27s and still hit full lock, but I'll show you my 5 broken tie rods if you wanna believe that shit. Anyways, the longer stroke of STANCE shockks means much better street driveability and low speed bumps. Great coilovers for grip driving with a deently high ride height, or DD duty. Drifting-wise.. yea get the stiff springs and put them on! Or pay a little more and get custom short shocks for the front like I am getting. Oh, and BTW, che out the ride height of my car in that thread. That's on STANCE with no rear droop at all. My springs are CAPTIVE and I am still tucking rim. Gang-ster! DAMN. Oh and Stance is also rebuildable/replacceable. in stock shockk replacements, iirc $100 a corner. And a 1 year warranty. They have my vote. I know they are new, and I LOVED my JICs to death, but I honestly can't find any complaints about STANCE after i swapped the front springs. They feel great. |
