where to buy timing chain guides?
i am preparing to buy timing chain guides on my 93 KaDe. I am going to remove the upper timing chain guide, and replace the lower one. Where should i buy the parts so that i get a good price and get the right parts the FIRST time?

yesh and yesh. why would you remove the one of the top ones and replace the one under the front cover? you remove both of those, period.
maybe he was talking about the 'actual' lower timing guide - iirc theres a third one on the bottom that you actually need. |

i know the very top one between teh cams is uneeded. However there is an 'upper' one that is off to the right that is needed and keeps tension on the chain. I think this is bad and is causing the clanking in my engine bay. I want to replace it to regain tension on my timing chain. I was just curios who sells these as kits perhaps for the best price.

no no...
ok there are actually 3 timing chain guides... #1 between the cams, remove #2 to the right, under the front timing cover, remove #3 NEEDED - on the bottom of the engine, opposite the chain tensioner arm (helps with the tensioning) if you are trying to replace #3, you might as well do the full timing chain job. iirc the timing chain guide has two tensioners. one is on the top left next to #2 guide and one is on the bottom opposite #3 guide. to be honest i'm not really versed in this but i recall reading that its oil pressure sensitive, meaning if you have low oil pressure you could get a slack chain. also the top tensioner can freeze up from gunk if the previous owners didnt change the oil regularly, so clean that off if it looks frozen. before you do anything, check your oil... are you leaking? could be as simple as filling her up. 240sx.org has some more info on it in FAQs. in there you can find info on pricing for kits / buying components seperately. in my experience everythingnissan.com typically has good prices on OEM parts. |

Check www.courtesyparts.com, when I had the upper timing chain problem with my 95, I checked there to see what I would need or what would come in the kit and they EXPRESSLY state what guides are no longer needed in the kit, suggesting that you remove them before going forward, to see if that rectifies your problem. I removed the uppermost and it cured my problem... I don't know if this applies to SOHC models.

I tried not to have to do the work, but I am being a post whore now, I went in and looked for the link to the information I stated earlier today in this very thread about courtesyparts.com and the information they provide:
http://www.courtesyparts.com/S13_DOHC-TBKIT.html ... you're WELCOME bitches. |
