TDC on sr20det head install?
The man. says set #1 to TDC on the compression stroke... but people have told me NOT to set TDC when installing my head... which one?

Eh who told you not to? I did mine on TDC from what i recall using the S14 SR manual online.

yeah that guy wasn't very smart...if you didn't have it at tdc how are you going to get your cams lined up and properly time your car
