SR20DE Clutch
Buddy of mine picked up an S13 SR20DE for his S13, we pulled it apart today to reseal it and found it needs a clutch. He's on a pretty tight budget for a clutch kit so I am trying to find a cheap option for him, but there isn't much info about what will work with the factory flywheel.
Does anyone know of a kit that we could throw on it and keep the factory flywheel? From what I have read the DE uses a 225mm disk so a ka24e clutch/pressure plate should work, but I have found no evidence of anyone doing it. Seems like the only other option is to throw a full DET setup behind it, I'm not against this, but I am just trying to find a cheap and easy solution for him. If anyone has any ideas or input it would be much appreciated!

a lot of the DE's have the DET flywheel/clutch fitted.
im guessing the smaller DE flywheel/clutch would be lighter than the DET so I would also try to keep this if on a budget as it would help it too rev with less inertia etc... round here we have places that remanufacture clutches, I had one rebuilt a couple years ago for an RB20 with new heavy duty material on the friction disc and stiffer springs for £80 which is probably about $120 us dollars. the guy mainly did truck clutches. |

You are talking about an NA SR20de out of a Silvia correct? It wouldn't make a lot of sense for Nissan to make 2 transmissions with the same case but different input shafts, especially considering they use the same trans on their naturally aspirated USDM engine. Also every Nissan trans from SR, KA, CA, RB, VG, VQ etc uses the same spline count. Do you have a photo of the input shaft/trans you're working with? |

As far as I've seen, and I'll eventually run into this with my swap, the only solution is to just grab DET stuff. There is no 225mm disk with a 24 spline in our market. I'm sure you can source one on YAJ or somewhere in Japan, but at that point it won't be cost effective.

Thats what we ended up doing.
For anyone doing this, you need the DET throwout bearing sleeve to use a DET clutch and flywheel. It will not work with the DE sleeve.

![]() Also, proof they are different, Nissan FAST says so ![]() ![]() Yeah and a different throwout bearing sleeve, something I found no one talk about anywhere else. Posted that info here so if anyone else runs into the same issue it will help them.

Well, I bet a quarter that it had a DET clutch already installed when you got it. |

Um, what part of I replaced the clutch that my own DE came with did you not get. I went with the logic that if the KA24DE throwout bearing and sleeve works on a SR20DET then it should also be the same as the one on the SR20DE. You're probably right, but at this point we're going to get into arguing over stupid useless details... It's apparently confirmed that the SR20DE and SR20DET use a different throwout bearing and sleeve. |
