help me with 5speed swap

I have a 98' automatic motor that I am putting in my 5speed S13. I am trying to remove the brass ring where the pilot bearing would go..this ring is not found on 5speed cars. I've tried a slide hammer but it doesn't have anything to really grip onto..If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them...I want to get my s13 on the road =(

WTF is that? Why did you post a picture??
You need a pilot bearing removal tool, and a slide hammer. Then you need to get in behind the bearing, and open that tool up as much as possible. Like have a friend open it with a wrench while you hold. Then use the slide hammer. If that really doesn't work (and it does), you can use a pipe wrench. I don't suggest it.
And 5-speed cars do have the pilot bearing, but it's shorter. You need to install a manual pilot bearing after removing the automatic one.

Are you talking about the donut ring right at the edge of the crankshaft? On my SR I had a problem with grip too, but what i did is use the hammer but dont slide the hammer too hard or it will keep slipping. Keep it as small tapping hits. Mine came right out.

I posted the picture so you could see what the fuck I was talking about..

What I highlighted wasn't the pilot bearing--the pilot bearing goes inside of that brass ring. There is little, if any, grooves inside of that ring and a slide hammer can't catch them..

I tried a pipe wrench but that didn't work either..

Just like Jeff said. Use a Slide hammer. Not slide the hammer, what ever that means. For a slide hammer, you can get the peice for the end that is a three peice hook. My friend just got his out from using that, and the last one he and his friend did, they did not have the tool so they tack-welded a piece of metal to it, yanked it out (that worked well to).

Exclamation

Guys, I really need your help. I tried using the slide hammer with the pilot bearing remover and there is only a tiny lip for it to grab. Mine wouldn't really grab at all after tightening it as much as I could with wrenches. For clarification I am not removing the pilot bearing, it's the donut ring thing that only automatics have on the end of the crank. Since I couldn't get the slide hammer to work I sawzalled some slits in it to try and knock it with a flathead or something but that wouldn't work either. Anyone have suggestions? I couldn't find any other tools at autozone that would do the job with the slide hammer either.

I tried the grease trick many times. It was a picture of the automatic pilot converter.

My car is already manual just that the new motor was from an auto.
I will just try the slide hammer again and see how that goes. If not, the
sawzall will finish it up.
