Just finished swap, temp guage not working?

I helped one of my friends put an sr in his 90 240sx coupe last saturday and we got it all wired and running, but we have some slight problems. First off, as soon as the ignition key is turned on, the engine temperature guage shoots right to hot, like as far as it can go to hot, even when the motor is dead cold. Second, the tach isnt working right, everyonce in a while it will kick in and start working but then it will cut back off, anybody have any idea as to how we can get these worked? Any info is greatly appreciated

Since its a '90, the gauges won't work. You need a '91-'94 to fix these problems.

We put one in a 1990 f/b and the only guages we had to change were the tach and the speedo, everything else worked, but this car has the digital guage cluster with HUD

My friend had the same problem when he swapped.

Bad wiring in the harness/loose wires at the ECCS connector.

Double check it.

So the sohc temp gauge is not compatible with the SR's temp sensor?

My sohc temp gauge reads very low all the time 1/4 of the way up...never really rises...been driving me nuts. I was under the impression that the tach was the only gauge that worked off a diff signal.

We changed the speedo and the tach, we never tried using the sohc speedo so I dont know if it works or not. Does anyone else here have an sr20 with a digital speedometer?

Yeah, you just swap the speed sensor from the KA tranny into the SR's tranny.

I believe so. I know that the SOHC tach doesn't work with the SR. Its a different signal between the two engines. Get a DOHC cluster and sub-harness and it should fix your problems.
