Russia v. Everybody (2022 Ukraine invasion edition)
So I stumbled on some PBS Frontline interviews for a couple of their programs regarding V. Putin and Russia, and they shed some insight on who Putin is, why he is the way he is, and why he's having Russia do what it's doing.
I'm not political analyst, but I've always seen Putin as being a bit of an odd duck, if a very skilled-in-PR duck. The fact that he was KGB/FSB, and succeeded Yeltsin just speaks volumes for the sort of character he is (which is only amplified when you learn about how he grew up). I think the current war is very interesting in terms of a.) what Putin aimed to achieve, despite the numerous agreements he broke in doing so, and b.) what he's actually achieved, and how united Europe and the world at large has become against his behavior. There's a ton of interesting facets to this and I'd love to hear what others are thinking. Among the nuttiness - 1. Heavy media censorship/state-approved reporting in Russia 2. China turning their back on Russia 3. Russian war crimes 4. Ukraine's president being a former comedian (not a slight, mind you. The US has elected a has-been actor and a game show host) 5. Putin's inability to see internal opposition for anything other than external influence 6. Biden's statement that nearly amounted to the US calling for a regime change in Russia 7. The overall ineffectiveness displayed by the EU, UN, and NATO 8. The overwhelming effectiveness of private companies and other non-governmental organizations to directly sanction Russia 9. Ukraine folded a nationalist paramilitary group (think militia as it relates to the US) that had about 1/5 of its members admit to being neo-Nazis) 10. Russian oligarchs (who all apparently kowtow to Putin) are being sanctioned at an unprecedented rate. Anyway, what say you? Do you buy into the Russian claim that despite their president being Jewish, Ukraine is overwhelmingly full of Nazis? Are those babushkas and other civilians being shot while bound actually insurgents? What are Putin's goals with this invasion? Is he trying to get the old (USSR) band back together to secure his legacy as glorious leader of motherland? Will Ukraine become a member of NATO? Have all the protests in Russia against Putin for the duration of his leadership been secretly funded solely by the West and not a result of organic dissatisfaction with his leadership?

11. Putin bullied his national security chief in a prerecorded meeting that was broadcast as being live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B0mWzB4GOQ) Here's those two documentaries - if you poke around on YT, there are full interviews from the people they get soundbites from, so you can check out the context it's presented in. Some of their talking heads are pretty interesting, such as Masha Gessen, who grew up in Moscow. Putin's Way (2015) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIgqhU4lkgo Putin's Road to War (2022) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsfUiTJv2lE

This war makes me incredibly sad for a bunch of different reasons.
First, the tremendous toll on humanity war has. Second, an oligarchy can still exist with the military might that Russia has. Third, it's gotten so much playtime despite the worse humanitarian problems in Yemen and Syria. Fourth, it's going to cause a famine ripple. Fifth, it's contributing in a major way to pollution. Sixth, Russia will need to be contained and conflict will likely escalate before it goes away. Europe should take a very large role in this; it's ultimately a European problem. Putin swung a very small dick to try to back NATO off Russia's borders and his insignificant showing may have Russia in an even more precarious situation. Having two nuclear pariah states with significant landmass is going to be problematic in the future. |

I was neutral at first. Then the more research I did on Ukraine. The more I disliked that corrupt country. The more i understood why Russian invaded.
I've been following mainly telegram, Scott Ritter/ Felix rex/ iearlgrey/Gonzalo lira/intelslava / Patrick Lancaster |

lol Boro drank the kool aid. I love that conservative "free thinkers" are the heaviest consumers of propaganda. Keep that bib handy for the drool, homes.
You're talking about corruption and immediately posted a video by someone who has been accused in a couple dozen lawsuits of running a Ponzi scheme and who is being sued by the state of Indiana. Oops. What about Eva Bartlett? Oh, she writes for RT, a Russian propaganda network. No conflict of interest there. Consume but don't question. Isn't that what you think about the rest of us? Watched a friend get sucked into this bullshit and I'm more than a little pissed about the fucking muckraking, backstabbing, lie-peddlers feeding off residual COVID rage and redirecting it into fighting the information war for a kleptocratic oligarch in a country that hates its people. |

I don't want war and find the whole thing disgusting.
Have you stopped to think why you even give a shit about how Ukraine's treating its citizens? About why you don't hear about kidnappings and extortion by Russian-backed separatists in the Donbas? Where was your opinion about Ukraine before the Russian invasion in 2014, when the Russian disinfo network began sowing its seeds throughout the conservative blogosphere and social media network? Have you thought about the previous puppets and the newer presidents and the strides the country has made against corruption? Tim Pool is Tim Pool's brand. He sells outrage porn, and does well at it because he knows he has a captive audience. In 2019, he was for Sanders- but accepted an invite to the WH for a circlejerk for Trump supporters. In 2020, he was for Trump. I believe this used to be widely regarded as a "flip-flop" but is a now-common tactic to gain credibility. You're stuck in an echo chamber. All you hear and read and see is carefully curated to get maximum views, likes, and shares. It's there to rile you up, to keep you tuned in to their talking points and tuned out to the rest of the world- who they have painstakingly painted as subservient to government interests (which, admittedly, can be true) and "legacy media." Here's a good site: https://www.bellingcat.com/ Here's a good article: https://theconversation.com/using-li...4-years-179335 Here's the April 15th OSCE Report on War Crimes in Ukraine: https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/f/a/515868.pdf Here's the base page for the OSCE reports in Ukraine: https://www.osce.org/ukraine-latest Here's the page for Ukraine from the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights: https://www.ohchr.org/en/countries/ukraine Expand your mind. Increase throughput. I find it funny that the far right is again supporting a blustery weakling rather than actual strength. |

Interview with Gonzalo lira. Who was detained by SBU because he was doxed by daily beast.
I'm fully aware of 2014. In both sides. Imo Russia as a country I won't fault their invasion. US is poking and I disagree with any involvement in Ukraine. |

He was detained by SBU (was he, though?) because he was spouting Kremlin misinformation daily like he didn't live in a country invaded by Russia and like he wasn't a fucking foreigner.
The fact that you won't fault Russia their invasion of a sovereign country means my communication with you ends with this post. |

I'm not taking any sides in this because I don't know enough about what's really going on over there. I watched those documentaries and still don't get it.
It just doesn't seem like a 'real war' with clear goals/objectives/strategy..

It's not a real war. It's aggression meant to exact the Kremlin's frustrations out on a populace the world won't defend, only supply. Russia's trying to be like the US, influencing geopolitics through military might, only the Russian military might is more like a wet fart and the world is laughing at their rapist soldiers dying in the streets. I have no interest in mincing words as innocents die to feed some tyrant's need to be on the front page. |

The support package for Ukraine after the Russian invasion as of 5/2 was $3.4bn. Total expenditure since Biden took office is more than $4bn. Another $33bn is being requested. $37bn on support for a war. You think I support that shit? I don't. Look through my past threads on the front page of Loud Noises. But I have a hard time being perfectly fine with countries invading their neighbors and committing atrocities. I have a hard time being perfectly fine with dictators wreaking havoc on world markets. I have a really hard time being perfectly fine with idiots and imbeciles actually supporting those dictators, as if murdering civilians is anything but the action of the ultimate bully. |

Here's the original, unedited interview with Shadow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN2NdiFJFh0
You'll find that the above video by Jackson Hinkle is specifically cut in the beginning to remove certain context. Why? Because there's an axe to grind and it needs to bring in pro-Russian viewers. Duh. Do your own research on the validity of the claims. Here's the link to Le Presse's interview of Wali after he returned from Ukraine: https://www-lapresse-ca.translate.go..._x_tr_pto=wapp and the original: https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/2...n-terrible.php Never, ever trust someone who calls themselves a Marxist Leninist American Patriot because they're lying about one or all of those things. |

How about an update on the war?
Here's some Russian military might: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...-cross-a-river . Please note that was a sentence fragment, as in "the Russian military might lose an entire BTG trying to cross a river." Ukraine routing Russia means a shorter war and less American tax dollars spent. The faster both countries get to recuperating and farming, the shorter the period of destabilizing food shortage in the ME and Africa. |

That was on purpose, to show his "humanity."
I sincerely hope, with the utmost honesty, that he's in constant pain. He's a terrible human being who deserves all the suffering possible before his death. He is responsible for the civilians dying in the streets, he is responsible for the soldiers dying in trenches. He's responsible for disease and starvation, privation and injury. I hope he knows that hatred for him keeps some Ukrainians warm at night when his strikes have knocked out their power. |

Word on the streets (well, from Medvedev) is that if Russia starts to find themselves more embarrassed than they already have been, then Putin is going with the nukes.
It's okay, this chapter of Earth was beginning to suck anyway. |
