question...

Note:
i tried using the search.

i have a auto 240sx. there are two options im now looking at.

1. swap a 5 speed tran AND go with a KA turbo setup
2. drop a SR in so i wont have to find all the manual thing to make it happen

im aware that its not impossible but hard to find parts to convert it to 5speed. I want some kind of turbo since my cars soo slow. so basically is it too much hassle to find parts for the KA-t since i got to find parts for the manual. and should i just go with the SR front clip? whats a easier route to go to since my car is auto to begin with...it makes a big difference since its auto..

If it's too much hassle, maybe you need to find another hobby.

5speed parts can be found with one phone call, so can turbo parts. Shit doesn't just fall in your lap son, you have to at least make an effort.

just do what fits your budget and suits you better in a long run. don't ask us what do to. as far as parts, could depend on where you live. junkyards or partshops or dealerships.

instead of messing with a sr, I would say KA-T, the sr swap will be more $ out of your pocket while the KA-T you could piece together and roughtly spend about 2K, its just that its easier to find a KA engine for cheap than it is SR(if you blow one), right now I put 4K into my car and its still not done mind you that I swapped my engine myself so if someone else swapped it it would cost you about 6K....It would of been cheaper to turbo the KA and get the 260 Hp out of just 6lb(depends on the turbo you get)while my sr gets 230 Hp at 7lb.(T28).

Oh yeah this is for a S14 Blacktop swap
the s13 you would probably end with 3K-3500 swapped by a shop but it only makes 209 Hp @ 7lb.(T25)..

in the end its up to you... just look at all the pros and cons of each of these or other swapps...do what you think you will like..

I forget who said this but from what i remmember is:
when looking at turbo pick 2 out of 3
1. speed
2. Reliability
3. cost

if i go with the KA-T. I MUST drop in the 5speed (i cant stand that my car has a mind of its own). so basically from my research i read the ka-t is Reliable to a certain extent..its all what the own wants/prefers etc...

lets say i decide to go with the KA-T in the future... is this a good step by step idea?

1. convert it to 5speed 1st!
2. should I build my own turbo (this has been done b4) or buy some name brand. WITH that said i pick 2.Reliability and 3.Cost.
dont get me wrong speed is the best feeling in the world however i really love me car and if the SR would last my car/motor/life etc i would pick whatevers... I basically just want to know what you guys think. thanks. -J

btw I cannot swap a motor nor can i convert my auto to 5speed. with that said im looking at a SHOP price of $500 - 600 for the parts and 800-1000 installed... i sthis correct? there alot of ppl in hawaii who have done the swap themselves..however even though its cheaper i would feel much better from a certificed mechanic. anyways... so thats already looking around 1000. give or take 100. then the turbo kit would cost like 3grand...
with all this said. would a swap be cheaper? granted that the installation would be easier and less hours of labor? I dont know if this makes any sense but i have the money ready ... and im having a hard time thinking of what to do.
