This is my first question post, so please be gentle, I am so delicate.

Here is what I am thinking about doing. I am driving a '96 240sx se with about 80k miles. I am look to marry a Random Technology converter with a N1 Dual.

How hard is the install of the converter? Does the converter come with flanges welded to it for easier installation or am I about 10 miles from the right idea? I was looking at a picture of the converter and it didn't show any flanges, that is why the question.

Does the converter add any noticable power?

ya, i am not sure of this but i will try>.

the cat is a universal fitment problably so that u will need to weld flanges on. if u have a welder than u can do it but if not then u will need to go to a muffler shop and have them put it on

damn, that is not what I wanted to hear.

Does anybody know what the stock inlet and outlet diameters are?

What is the inlet size of the apexi N1 dual. I've heard it is 2.5in.

The Random Technology Cats for the 240SX come with flanges. However, the flanges are slip type, meaning that they spin can around and slide up and down the inlet/outlet pipes of the cat. The Random 240SX cats use 2-1/2" diameter piping. Not sure what size piping the N1 Dual has at the cat connection but I would assume it is like 75mm or 3"...verify with Apexi.

If the N1 Dual exhaust is indeed 3", then the Random 240SX cat piping (which is only 2-1/2") will be swallowed by the exhaust (since the cat flanges are the slip type). This will prevent the cat flange and N1 flange to seal properly. But the good thing is that Random makes a cat for the Maxima that uses 3" piping and will also fit the 240SX...same bolt pattern, same length. Using this 3" cat eliminates the above problem. The 3" Random cat part number is 823030.

I have a Random Technologies cat with a N1 Dual. They bolt togather easily. But on my car the R.T. cat didn't replace the stock cat. It replaces a hollow 2nd cat/resonator thing. I didn't know that thing wasn't a cat until I took it off. I went ahead and put the R.T cat on instead of sending it back because I figured it might smooth out the exhaust flow. It did seem to do this and I think it makes the exhaust sound even better. So now I have two cats and less money.

wa-fu,

you wouldn't happen to have pics, of what the exhaust looks like with this setup. did you have to changes anything with the N1 dual, as it is supposed to bolt right to the stock cat?

I would think that the cat-back would need to be shortened?

Ok, either I am on crack or I am just retarded.

I was taking a look at the exhaust on the car, and something just isn't clicking in my head.

If you look at the engine you can see where the down pipe connects to the header, so follow it down from there. I see the bend and then what looks like a cat, connected at the end of the down pipe. Then at the end of the cat, you see the next connection point for the rest of the exhaust. About a 1' to 1.5' down there is what looks like a miniture cat, then on to the muffler from there. However, looking at the "second cat" I am not seeing any bolts to just take that part off, it looks like it is all one piece. If that is where the R.T. cat is connecting, then how do you get it to connect to the front end of the exhaust after the cat, if you have a N1 dual connected to the rear.

Also, if the N1 connects at the end of the "second cat", then it really isn't that long for a catback exhaust.

Tell me I'm retarded

If any one has pictures of the underside of their cars with the N1 dual installed that would very helpful.

that "second cat" isn't a cat. it's a resonator, just there to make things quiet. the real cat is what you think is the first cat.

I am talking to someone at Random Technologies, he is helping me with the catalytic converter questions. he says the direct fit cat they sell takes the place of the resonator. However looking at the resonator on the exhaust, I do not see anyway to just take that part off.

How long is the catback system for the N1 dual?
