Problem with tachometer

I'm having a problem with my tachometer on my 95... its fine to about 3k rpm, when it starts to jump around, and it settles back down at around 5k rpm. Any ideas? Its not a big deal right now, since the car is auto, but the 5spd is going in next summer, at which point is will become important. I'm thinking a stripped gear or a messed up sensor somewhere...

i've got the same issue you have. the needle fluctuates up/down/around. i did a diagnostic check per the service manual and determined that the tach is broken. however, i'm having a hard time realizing that they charge anywhere from $430 to $285 us dollars for them...the tachometer ONLY!

good luck...

same here........

ebay....$70
entire assembly

once you change to manual it shouldn't effect it much. you just won't be able to decipher the tach...
(i had the same problem...before swap and after the swap....didnt' change much)

ive had this happen to me as well, not exactly like you explained it... mine goes nuts while falling back down. 240's gauges suck, hands down. lol.... there have been many different complaints with them. with age they seem to go nuts, or give out. the gauge in my nissan truck says im going 35 when im sitting still.... i say if it bothers you, replace it like mk said, and hope its not another lemon unit.... good luck, hope you find a fix. if you do let us know... if its not that complicated i may take my cluster apart and tinker.
