i found a good 83 porsche... leather ,5 speed, garage kept, 100k, very nice, and a very nice price... they any count?

100k is pretty low. make sure the clutch and waterpump have been replaced, also check that the axle shafts have been greased. i believe the list price for the clutch is like 600 bucks. parts for the 924/944/951/968 family tend to be notoriously expensive, but they are really fun cars. i always say that the are shitty porsches but good cars.

is it a turbo? with a chip, cam, intake and exhaust, the turbo 2.5 944's will push 320-350 hp easily.

here, i asked my porsche friend and here's his reply.

Finally the topic for me.

I have had my turbo just about a year now, and I can say these cars have a ton of potential. I started at 217 hp and a very stock car. I'm sitting at around 315 now and I have not messed with the motor other than chips, intake, exhaust, and a little bit of a boost increace.

I bet you that my car will handle with just about anything on this board, a lofty claim, but I have a trick suspesnion underneath and the 50/50 wieght balance doesn't hurt either. Custom built struts and hypercoil springs, upgraded sway bars and new bushing with a nice set of meaty tires to complete the package.

These cars come from the factory w/ good maybe great brakes, but you can go to the Porsche parts bin to get and easy up grade. Big Reds fit w/ 17 inch wheels, and GT3 rotors and brakes fit w/ 18's.

These cars are cheap to be had and because of the turbo set up you can get a lot of hp out of the 2.5L motor, or if you ahve cash you can crank it up to a 3.0L and eat just about anything on the road. I know of one of these cars that hit 199 mph only to bounce of the rev limiter.

The biggest draw back of these cars: Parts. Parts and labor are very expensive, so you had better have a good wrench man or be one yourself.

944 turbo's rip like all hell, they are so sweet. i'd love to have one. iirc they are a bit on the heavy side though. either way, the thing dominates.

I think 944 Turbos (or 951's as the Porsche people seem to refer to them) are bitchin.  I was talking to a guy who built one for the 944 Challenge road race series.  It cost him about $12K to turn it into a nice little track car (counting buy in, IIRC).  Out of the box it was called the best handling car on the market for most of it's production run.  <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'>

The first year they made 951s was 86 or 87. So if this guy is looking at a 83 it is a NA - somewheres like 140 hp. Sweet car, I almost bought one back in June, but it didn't check out good. Excellence magazine has great write ups on buying used Porsches. Make sure you get it checked out and be prepared for the parts costs.

yeah, i'm going to check it out this saturday... hopefully i won't blow it up testing its limits... if its not much faster than my 90 fastback... i'll won't even think about it... maybe thats a lie... its still a porsche... it'll be my summer car

i owned a '87 924s, i loved it but it was very slow. parts are very very expensive and hard to find. if you are looking for speed this isn't the car unless it is turbo and to put a turbo on it would be megabucks.

Or the SX cars are the Japanesse 944's since the 944 came first. I even think Nissan tryed to model the 91+ bumper after Porsche.
