swaping motors with out taking off botom motor mounts, is this possible?
So im swaping my ka24e, for another ka24e, and the bottom motor mounts seem to be imposible to get out, so i said forget it and got both top motor mount nuts off, is it bossible for me to leave the bottom of the motor mounts on the crossmember, and just take the top nuts off, pull the motor, and drop in the other motor? or must I have to take the bottom motor mount nuts off, if so I will most likely have to cut them off

That's how I do it...getting them back on it a a little tricky sometimes...but if you loosen the 4 bolts that hold the meatl part of the mount to the block, it'll work it's way on.
Be careful with them, though...with high mileage, they can tear if you put too much stress on them. So position it carefully...one side first, leaving all the nuts loose...then the other side...set the motor completely on the mounts, then tighten everything. - Brian

i kept them in when i did my sr swap....it dropped right in with a little persuasion(prybar).....just set your motor in the bay and get them as close to the mounts as possible...then rest the motor on the mounts with a little pressure...then pry them into place.....worked for me

when taking the motor out.. its easier to losen the top ones and pull the engine out.. after the motor is out.. then you have an easier reach for the rest of the motor mount on the bottom, its that rubbery piece.. then when you drop the engine back it.. attach both pieces on the motor.. and aim for the two holes in the engine bay.. its pretty tricky but its alot easier than having the top mounts match up with the bottom mounts while the engine is in the bay with the transmission in the tunnel.. well thats from my experiences and ive dropped in about 4 motors.... good luck meng!

I've never removed the bottom nuts on the plethora of swaps I've done or assisted with. No need to.

thanks for all the replys, one more question, this is my frist time swapping out my motor, I was just hopeing i could leave the tranny connected to the car, and just pull out the motor, then with the new motor install the clutch etc, and try to drop the motor back in, get it alligned with the motor mount holes, and tranny. it looks like I can get the motor out this way, but trying to get it back in this way does not seem possible, and ill probolly have the drop the tranny correct? thanks for the help guys

hmm ive never seen it done, and even with the tranny and engien out, it takes a lot of workin to get it lined up to connect each other, im thinkin you will need to at least unbolt the tranny.

It's easier and faster to pull them together...rather than lying under the car having a hard time reaching all those bolts...pull it as one piece.
I have done it both ways, and prefer to pull 'em together. - Brian

yea pull them all together its ALOT easier than putting the tranny seperatly, remember, you have to align it to slide the bolts in and shit - pain in the ass.
