POS! better not be what i think it is...
replaced my water pump and it still overheated. its because i half ass bled the system. so overheating is not the problem. but the next night, i move my car and pop the hood to make sure everything is cool and leak free. i see little fresh beads of honey/oil like substance on the gasket. this is what it looked like today dried:
i look above and the valve cover is cool because i just replaced that gasket. why does it look like oil is somehow squeezing past the gasket and rtv? why is oil there in the first place? possible... ... bad... ... head gasket? say it aint so, say it aint so... ![]()

If there is oil in your coolant you could easily check by opening the rad. cap. Or by checking the dipstick to see if it's milky.

Are you certain it's oil?
If it's dried up, I highly doubt it's oil. Looks like it's just leaking coolant. Pull the pump off, clean the mating surfaces, and reseal it with RTV.

it looks as if though it is leaking from the pump side of the gasket. my parts guy made it a point to tell me to put really little rtv on the block side of the gasket. could it be that i didnt put rtv on both sides? or do i just suck at RTVin'? theoretically, i didnt even need rtv because of the gasket right? so if i took the extra measure of adding a sealant, why would the gasket and rtv fail? thanks for the advise...

alternative to rtv is permatex, which is an "aviation" gasket sealant. its hella gooey, hella messy, but hella stronger. rtv works better if mating surfaces are crappy. permatex will hold more pressure and is more heat resistant compared to rtv.
