SilkRoad RM/A8 coilovers for drift and grip?

what characteristics does this coilover have that make it a drift coilover and how will they effect handling in a grip driving situation? i want to do a combination of both grip and drift driving and dont want a coilover thats going to give me poor handling characteristics during grip driving.

i edited my original question cuz it sounded retarded. haha.

im curious in the same question. However, having ridden on quite a few coilovers, i wouldn't say any coilovers were great for drift and NOT good for autox/roadcourse. Usually having good suspension travel, great adjustability, correct spring rates (almost all are 8/6), and good valving are excellent for both drift and 'grip' driving. I wouldn't be afraid to use silkroad's products for either type of event. I'll be going with the RM8s, or possibly KTS when i change my coilovers in about 5months

Stiff rear for grip? When you stiffen the rear it adds the tendency to oversteer. A stiffer rear would be better for drift. For grip driving i'd adjust to the point of very little or minor oversteer, but thats just me and i hate understeer.

I meant that as a reference to having a hankering for a drift setup.
grip would require a more soft damping

I remember reading a long time ago that coilovers like Tanabe DD which are designed for drift have a slower rebound in the rear to keep the rear squatting longer and helps accelerate the car out of the turn.

tangent: dont be afraid to say grip driving. it specifies the opposite of drifting. other wise, people would say 'regular' infront of driving instead of grip, which is not only longer, but doesnt easily imply the opposite of drifting. do not confuse my point with 'controlling' a drift. 'control' in a drift and 'grip' are NOT universally synonomous. theres no such thing as grip drifting.

im not all knowing, but i decided to be as anal about wording as other members. posts like post #2 and this one are bullshit, but if they can do it, then so can i

and i agree with the softer dampening and with the logic in the tanabe dd's rebound. just makes sense

Bradman, I feel you on the "grip" term, it doesn't sound retarded at all. I hear people use this term all the time. I have the silkroads. The springs are 8/6 and they seem to do well for both aspects. I am much more into "grip" than "drift" and they are doing the job just fine. You can go from there and tune the rest of the car to how you want it to handle. Sliding around, or gripping, either can be done easily with these coilovers. Good luck.

Billy

HEY THATS MY FRIEND ON THE GOLF CART!!!

He worked at a golf course and during cleanup/when the sprinklers were on they would go out and "drift" as you see in the vid. Lots of fun, been out there a few times. He's really good on a golf cart.

NismoSilvia270R: $950 for RMA8s? Thats a great deal!

Anyway, I am also curious about anyones opinions and experiance with Silk Road, they seem great on paper and I have heard good things, but dont know much about them/how good they are especially like you said for "grip". Any info on them or experiance would be appreciated. I have a buddy that's bringing them in a a good price (let me know if anyone is intersted).

Thanks,
mmtmatrix
