Problem removing Halftshafts - Zilvia.net Forums | Nissan 240SX (Silvia) and Z (Fairlady) Car Forum

Well I was gonna install my VLSD last night and didn't get very far. I sted taking of the bolt on the halfshaft end and all was well, but then it started havinging some serious resistance. So I kept going. THEN I stopped cause I felt like I was damaging it. SO then I started going back and it's now basically froze up and about 80% off. I have new halfshafts with the VLSD(300zx Na, pre 95 L30) but after looking at them it seems they have a little damage to the threads also. It seem that the damage comes from the holes that the cotter pin goes through. Just wondering if anyone else ran into this. So what I'm gonna do is either try to get a 22-24(not exactly sure what size maybe someone can inlightne me) die(sp) on monday or take it to a machine shop and have them do it. Cause I don't want to be putting the blot on and destroy the threads in the process.

Wow, noone has ran into this? I must just be an idiot

Sounds like both sets of axles have been removed before, the ends of them have been beaten on to get them out of the hub, this usually crowns them and damages the threads.
