i was told by some other peeps here that the solid pivots needed specialized cams to go with it. but other friends said it doesnt matter, its just with the solid set, u can max out cam profile(kinda like a roller cam for pushrod motors).

remember when doing change, u will have to reshim your valvetrain. o the joy of a shim and a bucket valvetrain....

I have the ferrea valves, dual springs, retainers, lockers, and locators already. The problem I am having is the rocker arms staying in place at launch off the 2 step. I run the AEM EMS and with launching off the 2 step at between 6900-7200 rpm and only holding the 2 step in for 3-5 sec I have had 1 lash cap come out and 3 split rocker arms. I have been told that the solid lifters are supposed to help this problem and also valve float but I am not running the step 3's yet. I just want to make sure that you can run the solids with the HKS 272 step 2's. Or if anyone has run into this problem and how I can fix it before I kill the motor.

Look at it this way, stock SR20DET lifters 560 bucks from enjuku brand new, or tomei solid pivot lifters for 278ish with test shims and shims from raretrick. But also with going with the solid pivot lifters, you will need to go with the pro-cams from tomei, which you will also probably need then new vavle springs and retainers to go with it.

Well, I got off the phone a little while ago with HKS and the word on the lash killer kit is that you can run the kit with any of the different step cams they offer. The only one they require use for it with is the step 3, but it will work. So i guess I will try that and bronze valve guides and see how it goes. If anyone else has any input please let me know. Thanks

I didn't have any problems with clearance on the cams with the valve cover. And they don't say anything about having to do so. What part of the valve cover did you have to modify?

Well, I am only running the stage 2 272's from hks which they don't call for the shim kit or upgraded lifters. And ferrea did not say anyhting as well. Do you have to shim the factory lifters? I didn't know you could do that with the factory ones.

anytime u replace valves, lifter/solid pivot, valve seats, locks, or buckets/shims, u have to reshim the valvetrain on an SR.

u can take a chance and not but its what u are supposed to do. SR motors are whats called a shim and a bucket. per cylinder 1 cam lobe, 1 rocker activates 2 valves. one valve has a bucket(slotted shim/wear bushing) other valve has a shim sitting on top of retainer. if u dont spec the shims out when changing any of the above components, that rocker will be uneven ( 1 valve will be higher than the other, leaving rocker tilting to one valve). high rpm will have rocker possibly shoot out.

most shops when setting up shim and a bucket heads, grind the tip of the valve to the extended height of the old valve. that way you put valvetrain back to its original place and u have valvetrain close to original specs. this is not the proper way but will do for most people. proper way is reshiming the other valve(opposite of the bucket).

btw, SR valves are sodium filled on the exhaust side, out of curiosity, are u trying for an ultra light weight high rpm motor?
