I have a pacesetter exhaust on my 89 sohc. It's been on for about a year and a half now and I've had no problems. Most people will tell ya that pacesetter is crap and isn't worth the money, but I beg to differ. I'm still a college student and can't afford a 500-600 dollar exhaust system (HKS, Greddy, dual N1, etc). When I bought mine, it was $125 shipped, ready to put on, and installation was a snap. Power gains were decent...good down low, great midrange, and the ability to pull hard to redline when and if I want to. I like how it looks almost completely stock. Some of my friends couldn't even tell I had an exhaust. The sound isn't too bad either..nice, deep tone and quiet when cruising around town, but it gives a nice roar when you really open it up. I feel that it was well worth the money spent, atleast until I can afford something better.

I am just getting an apex N1 muffler and getting 3" downpipe back for my nissan. I would not waste the money on the paceshitter. I have heard alot of my friends exhaust on there 240's and almost all of them sound like crap. and almost all of them have obx, arospeed, magnaflow, and other rice brands I think that if you want something nice ya gotta pay the price, and you get what you pay for. BTW I think this board needs to freshen up on what kinda exhaust sounds ricey I keep hearing that the steriotypical Bee sound is conciderd rice but other than a cavalier(spelling?) the worst exhaust around here is on a 240. I think that has something to do with the engine and its displacement tho? well sorry for flaming just had some stuff on my mind. cheers!

Well there you go. THAT is why they sound like crap. Because they have the same CRAP thats on all those ricey imports. thats why they are rice. Its NOT because of the displacement of the engine. If that were true a V-8 would sound like a hornet. Sorry for flaming... but not..

It's not a bad thing to get a pacesetter type exhaust. As long as the piping is mandrel bent and the piping is the appropriate size, you will probably see better gains than our friend mr. Igotanapexiexhaustbutnotreally. That is until he gets his figment of an SR in his car...

What is up with all of the flaming going on lately?...makes me not want to post anything anymore. I gave my honest opinon on a product that I (keyword...I) own and have had experience with and someone comes along runs their mouth about what they heard about it. I agree that pacesetter is not a high end name brand, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a quality product. I've had my pacesetter on through rain and snow and still don't have any rusting problems. As for sound, it's all a matter of taste. The pacesetter is quiet and doesn't draw unwanted (and unnecessary) attention. In addition, it's also the right size for a NA application...2.25" and mandrel bent. But hey if ya want to buy an apexi to make you feel better, be my guest...it's a good product but right now I'm dirt poor and can't afford it.

Actually, I valued your honest opinion. I have a friend that can't pay for an 500$ exhaust and your post convinced her.

No unwanted attention, performance gains and stock look.

Hey,
I am in the market for new exhaust as well, but also don't want to pay 1000 (I live in Canada)

So Pacesetter isn't as bad as people make it out to be?

What do you think of their Header, worth it or not?

It's only $250 (cdn) which is pretty damn good price.

For the price you could replace it every couple of year if you wanted to.

Any extra feed back would be greatly appreciated, no need for anyone to poke fun either, I am also in University and am not rich.

Thanks in advance.

From what I've heard, the pacesetter header is crap. Many people have complained on the fitment of the header as well as the longevity (may not be an issue). I know there are a couple people on the boards who've actually gotten one, so they might be more helpful on this. Just wanted to warn you first.

I installed pacesetter headers on my car last month and had no problems at all. It's pretty good. It feels that there is a little power gain. They weren't ceramic coated, so all the black paint came off (unevenly) within first 5 minutes after the engine started.
so except for the paint complaint (which i can repaint silver ), it's pretty good... i had a custom cat-back exhaust system installed at a muffler shop for $275. I don't know of anyone who has the pacesetter exhaust, so i wouldn't be able to comment on that..
check out http://vstore.nopi.com/ they got good prices for pacesetters and vairous other 240 parts

Hey first240sx:

You know you can get Pacesetter through Canadian Tire and not have to worry about shipping?

Well you can,
the system is about 250 and the header is about the same...
that is a complete exhaust system for a quater if the price.

Think about it.

...what are the specific problems with Pacesetter anyways?

Let me know guys ...thanks!

If your going turbo make sure you get 80mm piping (aprox. 3"). N/A exhausts will severly limit the effieciency of the turbo. I'm pretty sure Pacesetter doesn't make a turbo exhaust for the 240.

dude, shipping from nopi is around $10. so that's $139 + 10 = $150 approx.
or are you tryin to get a different kind/cheaper?

Hmm, i was thinking about this last night...

The pacesetter exhaust itself is cheaper than getting piping mandrel bent. The piping alone might be worth the cost, regardless if it sounds like crap or not. You could always slap a better muffler on there if you wanted.

The outside is painted so it wont rust quickly, the thing to worry about is it rusting from the inside out. Depending on where you live and whether or not your car is garage kept, this may or may not be a problem.

I think it's 2.5 inch mandrel bent piping, but I have to check that for sure.

jc whitney has it for 135 plus 17.85 for shipping, so thats probably more than nopi if they have it shipped for 150.
i plan on getting one since the bastards down here wont pass my car inspection because they say the muffler has a leak and the exhaust hangs too low (it was something some hacker bent on there a long time ago, from the looks of it).
either that or im gonn aget a decent muffler and let a shop bend some pipe for me, its pretty much a straight shop from the header if i can get someone to weld straight pipe on.

and by the way, sport compact car just published an article trying to dispell the myth that smaller exhaust is needed for backpressure.
larger is better.

yeah, its a proven fact you will loose lowend torque. You will gain HP though on the upper end. Look at pretty much ANY dyno of a N/A 4 banger with big exhaust on it.

Ok.. now I said Nothing about backpressure. I said larger diamiter pipe will produce a loss of low end torque. I also said you will Gain horsepower on the Upper end. this statement fits in Perfectly with the statements made in the other thread. correct?

Aww.. I never knew you felt that way. hehe ROFL
