popping noise

at an idle when my redtop SR warms up it has a very noticeable popping noise. Its not consistent at all but it does do it frequesntly, only when its warm though. It almos sounds like a valve isnt sealing all the way or some kind of valve problem. I dotn think timing would be the cause the of this random problem, although the timing isnt dead on yet. and its not really a backfire type deal either. It does effect performance and completely stops when the engine revs
So I was just wondering if anyone else had this sort of problem?

Thanks,
dave

Also I just bought a used (but in very good condition) Cusco clutch set. the guy that I bought it from said its not the rocket clutch but is heavier duty then it. it also of course has the pressure plate with it. I was also wondering if anyone has had any experience with a cusco clutch adn what they thought.
