Stolen / Wrecked 240's

I have finally made up my mind about what kind of car I wanted to build I have finally found a decent 96 to build up. The only concern I have is my insurance company not paying out for what I put into the car in the event of a theft or accident. I would hate to throw 5 or 6k at the car and have it stolen or wrecked. Do any of you have any experience or opinions about this?
Thanks

um, if you insure everything you do to your car, you pay out the ass for it, monthly.
if you expect them to insure every little thing you put on your car....you've lost your mind.

Insurance is for pussies, especially if your speaking of full coverage. Just ask Makoto. Getchu some liability, and let the way you drive your car be your full coverage. Implement your own theft safe-gaurds and your car wont get stolen.

Just be sure to take caution when you tell them you're doing to your car. If you tell them that you're swapping out your engine they may cancel your policy. I'd just tell them things that you do to modify the appearance of your vehicle (Rims, Aero, etc.) If it gets stolen, you won't have much to work with, so do everything you can to make it anti-theft.

dont show off your car

dont pop your hood

have no cosmetic mods

never rev it

dont post your mods on public forums, nor tell your friends what you have

of course...all of this is easier said than done

it seems like your best option would be to keep it stock.

I got quoted for $5000 parts coverage in addition to the regular stuff on my FC and it was like another $100 every 6 months.

personally i think that parts coverage shit is bs.

i know a few people that got jipped by the insurance company when it came time to pay up. parts 'depreciation' is a very grey area...

From what I've gathered it pretty much you have to pay to play. Which is complete BS. If some people weren't such POS we wouldn't even have to worry about it.

I guess you need to take precautions yourself by parking at the right places and driving safe. Or pay the extra to insure your parts. Depends how much you care about your car. Are you a wreckless driver? Do you live in a shady area? Whatever you choose I hope the best!

Well another option is that, you can find an insurance company whos cool with tuners. i got USAA which caters to mostly military folks. I got a minimum full coverage but theres a thing on my policy that if my car gets stolen/wrecked, they will pay me wut they think my car is worth per blue book, plus what every mod i got in the car is covered for as long as i got the receipts for it. shiet even my CD case is covered.

IMO it's not worth it. You'll be paying a premium price in insurance while the parts on your car depriciate. If something should ever happen to your car, you'd only get a fraction of the money that you've put into it.

Who do you think stole the car in the first place? The 'other' members are the ones to worry about.

And LoJack and GPS systems are only as good as the people monitoring them. In other words, useless.

Actually my neighbors yukon just got stolen a few months back. And he showed the insurance company all of his receipts for the stereo system he had in it, and they reimbursed him no problem. Maybe it depends on the rep you talk to?

Maybe you are rite, but there are monitoring devices where you can look it up yourself as to where the car currently is, where it has been and that sort. Viper has an alarm that can do that.
