Guaging Interest: SR20DET aluminum intake pipe
I'd like to find out how many of you are looking for a solid aluminum intake pipe for your SR20DET.
If there is enough interest, I'd be willing to get these pipes done. They're adapted from other cars and I get them to work perfectly with ours, which is how i can make this group buy cost MUCH less than other intake kits(about 1/3 price of the more expensive kits). This pipe will have a fitting for both catch can and a fitting for recirculating your BOV. (The only thing is that the fitting for the catch can is facing the opposite side of the fitting from the T on the valve cover. All it takes to get around this is use a 1-2" longer hose, thats it. Caused no probs with mine and id actually suggest plugging it anyway). You can kind of see it (plugged) on one of the pics The sweet thing is that since it's an aluminum pipe, you can definitely hear your BOV - which is one thing most people would lose when recirculating with the stock rubber intake pipe. I use a Greddy Type S bov and it's still really loud recirculating. All i heard was air when i'd let off throttle when I used to have the stock rubber pipe. You'll definitely hear and feel the difference between this pipe and stock. PLUS you'll be able to hear your turbo more; help it breathe and hear that baby spool ![]() And it comes with couplers, etc. here are some pics of mine which ive been using for over 1/2 a year ![]() ![]() I do realize there are intake pipes on ebay that you can adapt to your engine, but the difference here is that they don't have the recirculation tube. ![]() |

dont you just need a 45* bend for an intake pipe?
i personally dont need any of that junk...i plan on putting a breather filter on the T and my BOV is atmospheric w/o any chance of getting recirculated (really, it physically cannot be recirc'd)

I have a price set but i will have to wait to post it when I create the actual group buy. One question though. I think this is the reason why not many companies out there are making these - everyone's BOV is mounted differently. I use Enjuku's hot pipe w/greddy bov flange welded onto it. Others use their stock hot pipe, etc. What i'm thinking is, i'm going to have to end up making at least 2-3 different types of intake pipes. Unless theres a general area where it would work for all the BOV's (on hot pipe), i dont see any other way to make everyone happy. I dont have a stock hotpipe (w/bov welded on the center pipe) with me so i may need to ask someone in the bay area to lend it to me for a bit while i mark down where i would need to weld the recirculation bung...im in the peninsula. thanks Aluminum should be here in about a week or so i hope. Ill be sure to PM those who have shown interest when the group buy is up, thanks. |

As far as the recirc'ing issue goes, most people run the BOVs near where you have yours located; on that same section of the pipe, where the pipe goes straight (the metal piece that gets replaced with the flanged pipe when one installs a universal BOV kit on a stock hotpipe). The location of my valve is on that exact same section of pipe. Perhaps take a survey and see where people have their valve placed, and you can figure out the best place to put the inlet on the pipe. Most people can just use flex hose if its in a weird spot/whatever. |

do it in raw aluminum
that way the people who want polished can polish that shit...and people who want it painted can use engine enamel...which is SUPER easy i'd buy one from you at a discounted price w/o any of those bungs and shit
